Has anyone else tried to ring the IRD?

I've been trying to call them for like 2 weeks to no avail. I enter in my IRD and say the options and keep having "Due to overloading.."

How hard is it to contact these guys? At least with other Call Centres you have the chance to wait.. But not with the IRD you get cutoff due to overloading.. I've tried ringing after work from like 4 to 8..

Hey, have you listed a price, location and how much shipping would be to other parts of New Zealand? Also if you are asking for a PM make sure your Privacy settings allow your account to receive PM otherwise people can't contact you.

You are probably ringing at the busiest possible time. I normally get hold of them in the mornings no problem. They do have a call-back facility now that I have used a couple of times. The estimated times for callback were just about bang on, as annoying as it is to have to wait.

I had this when I tried to call on Saturday. Tried again this morning and got told the wait time was 1.5 hours! Fortunately it gave the option for a callback and they did. Got my issue sorted.

Had this problem last year. Needed to get in touch with them about something urgent. Couldn't get through anytime of the day at all. Was on hold for over 10 hours over the space of 3 days before either being cut off or giving up. Problem for me was they won't call back mobiles and that was all I had access to at the time. In the end sent a secure mail to them and told them their was nothing I could do about the deadline.

I had a similar experience a year or 2 ago and wrote to the MP in charge (Peter Dunne??)

Got  "don't care" response.

Well actually, they said they value my email and continually try to improve systems etc etc....   A couple of weeks later there was an news report on on this problem so it must have been quite bad.

Normally they will not allow you to call them via your mobile on an 0800 number. However you can call then via their automated self service system on the 0800 number via your mobile and then get put though to a real person.
I had a problem calling them to setup their new online GST system, as part of the process, they require you to phone them. As I only have a mobile now, and I didn't want to pay for landline toll call, which could have cost a lot knowing how long I could have been on hold for. I was still on hold for about 30 minutes, but the call didn't cost anything.

Yes I had to call their 09 number which is for cellphones. As I said the 10 hours of calling used up 100% of my free minutes so i wasn't best pleased after all of that i couldn't get through. I was really worried at the time as i needed to speak to them urgently otherwise i was going to be hit by $xxxx.xx in late fees.

So hard to get hold of them, have to pay to call them, they wont call back on a mobile, wont email you anything and insist on sending needless paper out to you with things that could be emailed.

If they had any competition then I would be leaving them, but unfortunatly the IRD have a monopoly on taking tax and its not worth using a tax agent when you are small.

Haha tried to ring again today. How is it that these guys collect billions in Tax yet have a Call Centre that won't even let you ring them.

Agreed, another example of a Monopoly haha.. They need to get out of the barbaric ages of using Paper and get to using Electronic means.

I never thought the IRD was this bad at first but wow..

But yeah agreed, I learnt my lesson about using a Tax Agent and will never use them again. They are a rip off. Better off doing it yourself if you can get in contact with the IRD.. :(

By the way how do you get about getting the Call Back Feature? I don't even get that option when I ring I just get disconnected due to overloading.. And I can't ring during the morning/day due to me being at work. So my only option to be honest is from 4-8.

Probably too scared to email anything out as if they make a mistake the standard reaction these days is to alert the media and create a guano storm from nothing.

What is people's experiences with secure email reply times?

I tried to call ird, they don't accept mobile calls, so called toll line, they don't accept mobiles for call backs, so I called toll line again deciding to wait out the "between 2-5 minute wait time", 30 minutes later I hung up unanswered.

I then sent secure email on 29 April, still waiting for reply! I realize it said I'll get reply in 15 days, but I didn't think they'd take all those days, if I even get a reply at all.

My question is simple, I'm down as IR3 filer and I'm not, I was several years ago. I can't change this and it directs me to call them to fix it. I want to do so ASAP as I've gone from 6 figure income to minimum wage and so am owed a sizable tax refund I would like to get my hands on.
