End of an era. HSBC is winding a lot of their operations up and encouraging folks to transition to alternative banks.

I’m of two minds: one is that it leaves a gap in the market for high value/internationalised banking. The other is that the NZ operation want exactly offering much outside of general banking, term deposit and home lending services.

Curious that it is winding down rather than just being sold to a competitor.  Remember trying to get a mortgage with them back in 2008 and I wasn't high net worth enough :)

I used them, they were great while contracting overseas.

I was briefly a customer, when AMP got out of the retail mortgage market and sold me to HSBC.

At the next review when my fixed portion was to expire, I went with the bank that would give me the cheapest overall package on mortgage, savings accounts, transaction account & credit card. It was not HSBC.

They were a godsend when I relocated overseas. Some of the NZ banks just referred me to their Aussie parents websites for migrant services.

I had everything up and running a month before I touched down.
