Help with tax return

Hi everyone, I have been doing some work over the past few weeks in order to get some money for an upcoming build. I will also be doing some work next month, before school starts. I am currently 15, and go to school. I have been charged tax on my recent paycheck and I believe that I am eligble for a tax return. However, the tax system is confusing me (slightly). So I have made an online account with the IRD, and activated it. I have my IRD number and a summary of earnings so far.

However, when I look for a form to fill in, I cannot find one. Do I have to wait later, until next year? I have had a look at this: http://www.ird.govt.nz/online-services/activity/returns-payments/online-ir3-2011.html but it hasn't really helped. One thing that is crossing my mind is that I only got paid yesterday and so maybe it needs to show up on the online transactions list. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

For money earned this year you need to wait until the 1st April 2012 before filling out a tax return.

In reality the online options for tax returns don't become available until june and then your refund will be processed sometime early july.

Ok thanks, that clears it up. It thought there was a time period but my parents got a tax reutrn about a month ago? Anyway thanks.

Yeah i should say you can claim for it anytime after 1st April 2012, upto 5 years afters after.

So if you apply for one at this time of year it will come through very quickly as IRD isn't as busy.

if you are at school you pay tax but you get it back in rebates , in fact if you earn under $10,000 a year you get most of the tax you pay back in rebates, the IRD will do it automatically at the end of the tax year if they have all your info.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

That is what is supposed to happen, never happened for me though - i always had to request a PTS and call them up to confirm it.
