One more thing, will the DNS/PTR process allow a customer to add a hostname to a statically assigned IPv6 address similar to how noip can with thier DDNS -  How do I create a hostname with an IPv6 address or AAAA record? (noip.com)

If you have an external DNS provider for your domain names, they should allow you to just create any AAAA records you want, usually via a web page to edit the DNS.  Personally, I run my own internal and external DNS servers at home (with Metaname as my registrar and also providing backup external DNS servers).  For forward DNS, you just create any DNS records you want.  It is the reverse DNS (PTR records) where there are problems, as that needs to be delegated to you by the owner of the IP addresses, or they need to provide the service.

Yep this is what I am hoping for.  I used the NOIP as an easy example of adding a hostname to an IPv6 but as you've noted is the PTR which is more important and harder to do and would be cool for Quic to implement.

EDIT: the below doesn't apply, CHC-local latency is the expected 1-2ms.
Thanks for the extremely fast response!

Although I'm not with Quic at the moment, I like the look of Quic with the sharp pricing! I'm also in favour of WLG-IX peering :)

While running a traceroute from a CHC non-Quic connection to a random CHC Quic address, the return path looks like it's taking a scenic route to Auckland. Is this intended or not?

Hey @ethanbmnz - that IP isn't a good test. DM me and happy to provide a real-world IP for you to test. :-)

@quic - As soon as IPoE is released I would be keen to switch - Unless you are after testers?

Awesome :-)

Not at the beta testing stage just yet, and no firm ETAs, but it will be happening - that being said, current customers are the first we shoulder tap! ;-)

Signed up today, one billing question here. It took $89.00 from my cc, but my connection date will be 27/04/2023, but on the invoice I received, it says the $89.00 is covering the period from 23/03/2023 to 22/04/2023, apparently I won't use any of Quic services, can this be clarified?

Hey @logicmouse,

Welcome on board! When the first invoice is generated, as it's at the time of signup, the system isn't aware of what the "actual" dates will be.

There is a project to suss this out and actually remove the incorrect dates on the first invoice, but rest assured that your first invoice covers your first month from the time you're connected. You'll not be paying for a period before your service is live.

Therefore if you're getting connected on 27/04, this will be your billing start date, and you're paid up through to 26/05. Therefore, your next invoice will be due 27/05 and will cover the period 27/05-26/06 (with correct dates on the invoice!).

Hope this helps :-)

Chorus were supposed to come today to scope the installation for the fibre install at mums house, but they delayed it by a month because they don't have enough workers here apparently :(

I called the contact number, and they might get more staff in my town but sounds very up in the air.

I guess it's Skinny 4g for another month for mums house.

Yeah unfortunately all Chorus installs have been delayed by a month or two.

Chch residents however Enable have delayed up to 6 months depending on the type of install

Is you mum in Whitti too? We had a mare getting them to turn up.  Had on camera in driveway leaving a card that no one was home whilst dad was in the drive waving his arms.

Found success chatting to a local and supplying beer......sorted in a day

Buggar

I ended up driving past the guy that abandoned our install and to another crew on centennial.  Had a yarn and they popped over after the job, might get lucky stopping for a chat if you see a van....if you see the same guy, keep driving lol

Feeling pretty lucky with all the talk of delays in installs, my Enable install was actually brought forward several days!

They were really good about putting the ONT where I wanted it rather than where most convenient as well.

Got all set up yesterday morning, and the fibre connection was live in seconds! Great to have non-hotspot internet after nearly a month :D

Thanks for making it seamless @quic

Absolutely off topic, but can't help but be tickled by Chorus citing a shortage of workers.

They're leaving out the bit where they don't want to pay them a living wage.
