hsvhel: Not as bad as some others

Still a pretty solid deal. I'm actually considering dropping from the 900Mbps to 300Mbps to save a few bucks, purely because I can only think of one site that ever gets even 4-500Mbps (my seedbox in Europe) and it's not worth paying the extra for.

That's what I'm running, works fine for 4 of us. Even when i do load it up with 60/80Gb game uploads to the office

Hello all, i just finished my first day with Quic, to be honest its pretty fast, my speedtest aren't always stable but i get at the slowest 450 down and 400 up and at the fastest 885 down and 544 up , with spark it was more stable for the speeds and the ping but its different with a small independant provider that might not have all the bandwidth available through ultra fast fibre in my part of waikato, at the same time we will see how is it , and i'm planning to build a smokeping server , if anyone has idea how to build it, i'm all for suggestions

Welcome to the crew.

If you’re familiar with Docker it’s pretty easy to spin up a container with smokeping. Check out linuxserver.io for a bunch of good container images. If you get stuck maybe start a topic in one of the other forums that might have people better able to help.

Unfortunately, i am still struggling with my upload speeds, mainly upload from my site in Hamner springs, which is a bummer because that's where my homelab is.

Both speed tests run at the same time, to the same speedtest server (Vetta Online)

Test from my home connection here in Christchurch (Enable Fibre, 900/400 plan):

Speedtest from Hanmer Springs (Chorus fibre connection, 900/400 Plan) This is the problem connection.

Both network setups are identical - exact same routers on same firmware and settings, exact same switches, even the patch cables are the same throughout, all the way to the ONT. Only difference is the Hanmer site is on a static IP.

I even dragged my PC up with me last time i was there to confirm it wasn't the box there that had issues. Nope, still a very sad upload : (  the average upload speed is anywhere between 90-200, sometimes hitting 240 on a good day.

Even weirder, if i let speedtest pick its own server, the Hanmer site decides that Auckland is the nearest location. Christchurch is very much closer to Hanmer Springs last time i checked.

Bit of a pain, and it's strange one considering that here in Christchurch, the speeds are absolutely brilliant. Hopefully these speeds improve, as sustained upload just dies any time i try to do anything regarding any large files or streaming 😕

For curiosities' sake, here's the Speedtest results from Hanmer Springs when it gets to pick its own server, note the ping:

Could this be a peering issue?

@cjkbarnett Just be patient. They have not come back to say the issues are fully resolved as of yet. From what I know, this is a rather complex issue that won't be fully resolved overnight. I'm seeing full speed on one of my connections (in Wellington) so they're getting there.

Auckland is closer network wise since its on the same fibre provider

Christchurch is on its own fibre network

Based on that behaviour I'm assuming that your UFB connection is being handed over from Chorus to Quic in Auckland, whereas your Christchurch UFB connection is being handed over to Quic's network from Enable in Christchurch itself.

This has always puzzled me. I'm in Whangarei, but when on Quic, Speedtest as well as stores that try to figure out my location from my IP address (Bunnings, etc.) seem to think I'm in Wellington, or at times Timaru.

I think that's because Quic are new and have probably been given IP addresses that have been used in those locations in the past.
Eventually it should sort itself out.

Does anyone know if it's possible to use hyperfiber with gigabit equipment? I want more upload speed but I'm not worried about download being more then gigabit.
