I think I've changed my mind, at some stage I'd love to come and have a listen.
Sorry, when you said you had a nice speaker set up, I thought you meant speaker speakers :)
Oops, I do have a pair. Welcome to the Fellowship.
Hey, are there any other places like Addicted to Audio around Auckland selling headphones / iems? (Apart from Computer Lounge) Thanks! :)

AVWorld on Dominion usually have a good selection of gear. Bought my most recent hifi gear and headphones from them.
Also maybe check out the guys at Rapallo
Can also recommend AVWorld.
I think their headphone and Amp Selection is pretty good, I don't really rate their knowledge super high in the headphone area (other areas they are pretty good), but if you want to audition, it's great.
Also Paasha Turkish is a half dozen doors down, and they do the best Shish Kebabs in NZ in my opinion.
Thanks! I'll be sure to check them out! Also, are there any places selling Hifiman in New Zealand that you guys know of?
So I disappeared down to see Addicted to Audio in Auckland today, looking to try some alternatives to my HD800S for comfort and sound. It's reasonably sparse in there right now, as much to do with the stock situation and what not, but Nick down there was helpful and friendly and knowledgeable.
They do have a reasonable range to demo and try.
I tried the Focal Clears, the HifiMan Ananda and the LCD-X's.
Of the 3, the LCD-X were *miles* ahead for comfort. The sound was probably overall my favourite in terms of signature, with the Focals being quite different but very pleasant. The Ananda feels pretty similar in comfort to my HD800S but sound quality was probably on par or slightly better than my T1's. There was nothing which was clearly better than the HD800S in every department.
I expect this to be pretty unlikely, but thought I'd ask here just in case, but does anyone have a LCD-X they want to do a 1 month swap with my HD800S? I am keen to spend more time with the LCD's to see if they are more to my liking.

Geektastic: I’m still wowed by my Focal Clears, especially at the price I paid!
With a list price of $3K they should be pretty good!
My Audio Technica A900 I use at work are doing great, at about US$200, but the new model headband isn't as good. The LCD-2 I use occasionally sound better but they're open like the Focal Clears so can only use in a quiet environment.
The Focal Clears and LCD-X are two of the headphones I've been reading up on for a while now - definitely need to pop down to Addicted to Audio sometime to try them out!

Wow! Where'd you get them from for less than half price?

So, *finally* I feel I am happy with my HD800S's. I have never felt they were as magic as most people rave about. Recently, I started to explore other options, which led me to ask more questions around comfort and trying to figure out why the sound just didn't matching up.
I found an EQ setting for a tool called APO Equalizer. I found a highly recommended EQ presets.
For comfort, it's about where they sit on your head, and making sure you have a good seal on your face. I am tempted to try a pair of Lamb Skin aftermarket pads, though there are mixed reviews on sound effect.
Right now, I am listening to Cat Stevens, and having seen him live a couple of times, it genuinely feels like he is right here in the room with me. John Farnham - Burn for you, chills. Listening to Dire Straits is magic.
