BMarquis: I finally bought a pair of SHP9500 Headphones
Holy moley, how are these things ~$100!?

Sensational value for money. Prefer them over my ATH-M50x when the situation allows for open back....

Where did you get them from at that price?

@tieke a guy on facebook marketplace.
However, I believe Philip's sold the design to a Chinese company and the aliexpress ones (or at least some of them) are now considered a legit source.
They can be bought there for around $100-120.
Amazon has them about $115 I think?

Thanks - I was just checking if they had dropped in price locally, as I think the Amazon ones end up being around NZ$167 delivered once GST and shipping are included. Looks like gorilla-tek.co.nz have them locally for $133 including shipping.

So - I just hit endgame (lol) and got myself a pair of Meze Empyreans in the AVWorld Boxing Day sale.

Whilst they were still wallet-numbingly expensive, they were reduced by some NZ$1300 from local list price, so I pounced!

Running them from Roon via my MojoPoly currently and thus far they seem to be holding up as my “ideal” headphones and sound signature. Rich and slightly warm but with plenty of detail as well and probably the comfiest high-end cans I have ever worn.

If anyone is interested in a pair of mint 9 month old Dan Clark (Mr SPeakers) Aeon 2 Open-backed, then DM me - I will be putting them up on the for sale shortly!

Focal Clear (from recent AddictedtoAudio sale).

They didn't want to ship directly to NZ, so I "phone a friend" (my friend helped tranship).

The setup: Aurender > DirectStream > Violectric > Clear

The only ones they had were the dark silver ones - which interestingly seem to have now been discontinued on the Meze site and they just do black and Copper black.

I am in Auckland! I am sure we can do a listen session at some point... maybe there should be a another Geekzone headphone meetup in 2021?

HD800S based Drop modified version of this great headphone.

$1100 USD plus shipping and taxes.

Hm - given that at current exchange plus taxes/duty you would be paying around $1800 delivered and you can get a pair of original Senn HD800S in NZ for $1999, I don’t think these would be a good buy for those of us in NZ - especially considering the issues around Drop delivery times and support/returns that people have!

Potentially these are tuned to address issues people complain about with the hd800/s if they deliver what's been promised (enhancements without significant compromises elsewhere to compensate) but yes I hear you on shipping and total likely cost.
