can anyone recommend a SD card to use from pbtech?

theres so many to choose from, some listed on wiki have noted issues, but im afraid some others will have issues that just arent noted yet.

i was thinking of getting this model card SDSDB-004G-B35

I'm a complete XBMC virgin, it's going to be a steep learning curve, but is 4GB big enough for it?
In anticipation/preparation I have downloaded and pre-cut image which is 8GB (not sure whether this is full up though, there's a good chance that it was simply what the person decided to use for their install).

I've just bought a couple of SD cards of tinydeal, a 4GB Kingston and an 8GB SanDisk, both class 4. The wiki seems to suggest these should be OK but it's difficult to tell whether they are the exact same part no. or if they're even the genuine thing. At least the H2WTest found no errors, capacity is as stated and they perform beyond their class rating. I've written the Pi Debian image to the 4GB card, time will tell if it works.

Sometimes I use big words I don't always fully understand in an effort to make myself sound more photosynthesis.

yeah maybe go for an 8GB one...

but 4GB should be plenty, openelec is a about 200MBs once install so i believe, the only thing ill need to store on it is some cache files, the db files and the artwork.

everything else will be on a NAS/Server.

just want to get the SD card sorted so I can play with it as soon as i get the raspberrypi :) assuming its being delivered.... no email or anything (just "complete" on their website and i think my CC has been charged, takes a few days for me too see the charges... annoying...)

Anything from SanDisk, you can't really go wrong with. :)

In other news, my order is still sitting there with status "processing".

To the folks that have just had their orders changed to 'complete' status - what was your exact order date and time?
Mine says 29/02/2012 18:07.

I ordered going through the NZ Element14 site but this appears to be an Australian East Coast Daylight Savings timestamp as I recall it was well after 9 PM when I ordered.

is still being monitored. Might be worth a try if you want to chase it up. The local CSRs are very friendly and professional but haven't been able to give me any real info whenever I've rung the 0800 number.

Just turned up at the office and my was waiting for me :)

Haven't bought an SD card so will try one of my existing ones tonight and hopefully they work ok.

Yay.... my order status just now changed to complete on the element14 order page.
Woohoo!!

The interesting thing is, the credit card number I used/entered when initially ordering has change, so the old number is no longer valid. I wonder what will happen there?

They should be getting in touch with me to get my new payment details, but I'll hold my breath on that happening because I have previously emailed them weeks ago about just this matter with no reply yet.

Hopefully they will just invoice me and send it anyway.

I can confirm that the OpenELEC XBMC build runs fine on a 1GB memory stick, and there is still plenty of space left. I've found the OpenELEC build to be considerably more robust than the Ubuntu / XBMC combo I was trying to get working, but had a tendency to freeze.

I'm looking forward to hearing more about how you guys get on, as a Raspberry Pi or similar is a more attractive option than a whole PC tied up to serve XBMC.

Just spoke to 'er indoors on the phone. Sounds like mine has just been delivered as I'm not expecting any other parcels, can't verify until I get home at about 11 tonight unfortunately.

Might be back in this forum quite frequently over the next few days to ask dumb questions on how to get XBMC running on this puppy...so be warned and please bear with me.

Are you able to check your account page and tell me if there is a tracking number at all?
Mine is saying complete, but still no tracking number.

No tracking number at all, no email, the order status says "Tracking number not available"

Have you seen any RPi/element14 charges come through on your credit card yet? It may be too early to see any of the transactions, but was just wondering on the off chance if the transaction had already come through.
