Speaking of HDMI, I've noticed that MySky HDi will have HDMI 1.2. Any major difference between 1.2 & 1.3?

There are no real big differences that will affect us,

From 1.2 to 1.3 they changed the speed from 4.9 gig to 10.2 gig and added a whole lot of support for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio streams for external decoding by AV receivers

I booked in the upgrade yesterday.

I'm going from Digital to MySky HDi.

I didn't want multiroom, but, I'm taking multi room for 4 months for the following reason.

For the first 4 months, multiroom is free (usually $25 extra per month) which in turn means that HD channels are free, because they're not charging the extra HD fee for anyone who's using multiroom (saving $10 per month).

So in essence, I'm getting the HD channels for free for 4 months, then I'm returning the Sky Digital decoder after the FREE 4 month period expires and will just retain the MySky HDi decoder and from that point pay the $10 per month for the HD channels.

Installation $50 to be paid to the installation man when he turns up and I'm going for the $15/month rental of the MySky HDi decoder.

Very excited about the prospect of MySky HDi upgrade for only $49 from my old MySky but a puzzling question is why does it need an installer to come more than a month after it is ordered even if I am already wired for MySky?? Having made the descision to jump into the new world of HD launched on July 1 this seems a little slow? Anyone have any idea why this could be surely I could drop off old MySky and pickup new one and plug it in this would be the same as FreeView HD?

Does anyone know what is going to happen to the Mysky 1 platform? It is a good deal to keep the mysky with my upgrade to mysky hdi multiroom, however it appears the gen 1 mysky box has been completely dropped from the offering?

I too am happy with the $49 upgrade. Great stuff Sky!

One gripe though Sky if you are listening: could you please split the $10 HD monthly fee? I have movies but no sport and still have to fork out the whole $10.

Not sure on the futures but think about dropping the magazine that will save you $5 a month (an unpublished option) and the mysky menu system is better anyway worst case you could use the internet guide.

Have just had very frustrating call to sky. Wanted to book MySky HDi upgrade but at this stage only have SD plasma (does have DVI though - plan to upgrade plasma later in year ?50inch Pioneer Kuro)
Sky lady adamant only can hook up via HDMI - I realise that is only way to get HD, but what about the component and even lowly composite in meantime - she states "You'll just get error messages". Surely the component and composite ports will work as SD as well?!! I have multiroom, and wanted to take advantage oof having two mySky boxes. Is she correct?

What would be the point of having a box with component output if it only worked with HDMI? I'm sure it would work. You shouldnt get error messages either 0_o

You can only connect HD via HDMI because it is protecting the HD content using HDCP system not I believe possible with DVI. To get the movies from the content providers they had agreed to use HDCP especially when people are recording the content. The component connections are for lower resolution output which they are not as fussed copy protecting. It is my understanding that it downscales output through the components at the same time.

HDCP does work with DVI, my old SD Samsung plasma would accept a HD input via a PS3 using a DVI to HDMI converter cable. But not all TV's with a DVI also have HDCP!

She is talking rubbish, the analog outputs will contine to work regardless of the HDMI sub assembly spinning out because no ones out there to shake hands with. Yes HDMI with HDCP does work over DVI, but ensure you DVI input supports HDCP.

My understanding is that the technician is required to come out and run another cable from the satellite dish.

There will be no requirement to add another feed from the dish to the MySky HDi, unlike Foxtel SkyNZ has all its transponders on polarity, thus only a simple splitter is required directly behind the MySky for the current MySky and one feed to the dish, with the HDi as it contains an internal multiswitch that splitting function is internal so again the same single feed from the dish and the splitter now internal (in the form of a multiswitch).

I suspect sometime in the future SkyNZ will be looking at taking up extra lowband space on D2 at 156E, this will most likely also be Hpol, but to allow multiple tuners (or multiple boxs) to look at either orbit location at will a multi output dual orbit LNB would be required and then two feeds from the dish. As I said this is my guess, but there is no indication from Sky that such a plan is going to happen, so only one feed is required from the dish to any SkyNZ STB or MySky/MySkyHDi.

My panel is 4 years old (LG RT-42PX) , is there any easy way to check if the DVI has HDCP? Nothing mentioned in manua.

Hi, long time reader but first time poster. Question regarding SD content through MySky HDi. Will SD content be scaled to 1080 prior to broadcast? If I understand correctly, Freeview HD does this. If not can the HDi box rescale? Seems there will still be a lot of SD content out there, and I'm hoping that the pretty ordinary looking and compressed pics we get thru Sky at present will be much improved by this new box.
