Good spot. You may already be aware of this, but the HZ2000 uses a customized OLED panel different to the rest of the range, so it rates a bit higher in picture quality and brightness. I believe the only difference between the HZ1000 and HZ1500 is the 1500 uses a fancier stand and better speakers, so if those are all the same to you, you could potentially save a few dollars.

I will refrain from expressing my opinion on the so-called "atmos" speakers, or TV speakers in general.

That was my read on it.

My understanding was the 10.5G plant would enable them to more efficiently produce bigger panel sizes, whereas the way they are manufactured now is not efficient for >65" sizes. I'm sure I also read somewhere that they were intending to prioritise 48" panels at the Guangzhou plant, as they can get relatively high yields from the 8.5G process.

Regardless, the higher supply should hopefully bring down costs across the board. Especially as other panel manufacturers (Samsung Display, BOE, CSOT) are all going to be jockeying for a piece of the market soon.

It really depends on what they use it for and how fussy they are about picture quality? (I say that as I'm not about what age we are talking here)

For a smaller room (bedroom/small lounge), 55" would be all you need I reckon. You could get a half decent 55" Samsung or Sony LCD TV for ~$2k, ~$2.7k for a 55" OLED if you can get either a 2019 model, or an early discount on a 2020 one.

Going down the market, you could get an entry-level one from the above brands for $1000-1500 if you aren't fussy about PQ or next-gen consoles.

Sitting further away than, say 3m, you may want to consider 65". In which case, add about $500-1000 to the above.

From memory the difference between the GZ1000-1500 was the direction that the speakers faced. The 950-1000 was simply the stand. The HZ is probably pretty similar.

This - I had a 43" veon lent to us by my colleague and the PQ was fine (yes we had nothing) but it never really bothered us. Pair it with a good box (apple tv, nvidia shield, chromecast etc) and you should have all the relevant apps/subscription shows you need.

PB is doing a sale on some TV models - the 55" Philips is listed at $699 from $799 (promo starting in 10 hours). There appears to be the "Horion" model but I have not seem them before.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, but I really want to be able to have NEON etc built into the TV and no standalone boxes. Might try and pick something up second hand

Trouble with that approach is that TV's with the built in Smarts lose the OEM support quite quickly in favour of the newer models. So going second hand you may end up with unsupported apps out of the box (which could be the reason it is being sold of course) which may, or may not even work.

Prices on 2020 models remain stratospheric for less connectivity and lower refresh rates at higher than previous price points.

Will be happening for sure. I mentioned somewhere in this thread a while back, a good mate who is a Sales Manager for HN said that stock was getting harder and harder to get as wait times got longer. I can only imagine there will be supply chain constraints for as long as CV is causing issues in the world.

Yup, we're seriously reamed. At what point does it become Commerce Commision-worthy, given the size of the price differential between us and the Aussies?

$11k+ NZD for the 77" CX here vs $6500-7000 AUD in Aus. Yes, that's advertised vs hard-bargained price, but still.

I'm just glad I got my 65" C9 at a relative run out price ($4149).

I'm not going to comment on the disparity between us and international markets especially Australia but keep in mind there are some large margins in place on stuff like TV's. I know for a fact that even at the price I paid for my GZ1000 that HN were still making money on the TV. Using 65" as a comparison I'd say there must be around 65-70% markup at RRP and 30-45% markup on special.

As much as I would agree that our prices are massively inflated on the higher end, I would also argue direct comparisons to Aus are still not exactly equal.

Their market is simply much bigger than ours and I imagine the scale of economy makes the factors for local market base costs for stuff like warranties, support etc. much less per item. And like the price, as the size goes up, the chance of manufacturing defects becomes exponentially higher. They may also have more buyers willing to pay those prices in the higher end, so it might make worth having a much lower profit margin to clip the ticket more often.

It doesn't make it suck any less though, I want my 77" OLED!

I was about to rush to my local bunnings store to buy some equipment, priced it all proper... until I realised it was the .au site (and pricing)!..

The US prices are even better, with many picking up their C9's around the $1800 USD mark at one point.

Looking for about 55 inch and QLED. Not tied to any brand, to some extent what we buy will depend on support for things like bluetooth and similar features.

My main reason for posting was to see what there was out there that was similar to the Samsung One Connect box that is available for some Samsung TVs. https://www.samsung.com/nz/support/tv-audio-video/ports-on-samsung-one-connect-box/

The TV will be wall mounted and I want to minimise the number of cables that will hang from the TV. Something like the One Connect would be perfect, unfortunately our budget doesn't stretch the the Samsung models that support One Connect.

There may be devices that act as a HDMI hub, but the closet device that would do most things I could name is an audio visual receiver. What external devices are you using though?

Not the question you asked, but is there any particular reason you want to go QLED? For a couple of hundred more than the Q60T you posted (which is way overpriced IMO), you could get a 2019 Panasonic GZ1000 OLED TV, which I would argue is far superior in picture quality to any LCD TV.
