Not the question you asked, but is there any particular reason you want to go QLED? For a couple of hundred more than the Q60T you posted (which is way overpriced IMO), you could get a 2019 Panasonic GZ1000 OLED TV, which I would argue is far superior in picture quality to any LCD TV.

The 2019 GZ1000 does look pretty good.

Only reason for QLED was the good reviews on current year models even compared to OLED, and the price.

Dollar for dollar everything else being equal the OLED wins but for what we need an OLED doesn't justify much of a premium. We currently don't have a TV but would like to have something bigger/better than a laptop screen to watch a few things off YouTube etc.

I'd be quite happy with a 2019 model but struggled to find anyone locally with one. Also it's a bit of price creep from our top dollar, especially as it may not get a tremendous amount of use.

Fair enough, unfortunately this REALLY isn't a good time of year to buy for any range; even in a good year most of the last year's models will have been run-out and the current models are at the peak in their pricing cycle. Add in a dash of global pandemic, and say goodbye to decent pricing and sales. If you can hold out for another couple of months, November-January is typically the best time of year to buy; on the other hand, I can understand if any TV at the moment is an improvement over a laptop screen.

One thing you can say for Samsung is they have quite an effective market strategy. While their top QLED TV's (Q95T, Q90R) are a bit more comparable in quality, their bottom range are not even close. Samsung has also gone through a process of downgrading their 2020 models, so that the corresponding 2019 model is actually BETTER than the new one.

The Q60T could be ok for your purpose, if you aren't fussy about dark performance or gaming, but at $2499, it is grossly overpriced; for that money, you can definitely do better. I wouldn't pay more than $2k, closer to $1800 for that model. For comparison, the outgoing (and better) 55" Q60R has been consistently under $2k since the start of the year.

I wish I could give you some better options, but even my go to recommendation in that price bracket has shot up 50% in price. If you haven't already, I'd also pop into your local TV store and take a good look between a few different models.

If you aren't too fussy about picture quality and features, then I would take a look at brands mentioned previously like Veon and TCL, and put your money towards a streaming TV box like an Apple TV, Nvidia Shield etc. I don't know about Veon, but TCL TV's come with Android TV as well.

Whilst remembering the challenges of doing that i.e. different lighting from your living room, TVs set to 'vivid', variable source material, sales staff with an agenda different from yours etc.

Their market is simply much bigger than ours and I imagine the scale of economy makes the factors for local market base costs for stuff like warranties, support etc. much less per item. And like the price, as the size goes up, the chance of manufacturing defects becomes exponentially higher. They may also have more buyers willing to pay those prices in the higher end, so it might make worth having a much lower profit margin to clip the ticket more often.

It doesn't make it suck any less though, I want my 77" OLED!

Oh of course, there are factors at play that would legitimately drive a price difference, but perhaps not to that extent. It just makes it even harder to cop a higher price for 2020 TVs that have, in many cases, lower specs than the 2019 models they're replacing.

Agreed, there are caveats attached to that. The above is definitely how Samsung gets a few sales, for sure.

Funnily enough, my MO has become the Just Browsing, Thanks™️ routine, unless I know for sure I can engage the salesperson in an informed conservation. I kinda had forgot that is not normal haha.

Looks like the Sony A8H is available now; although with the Master A9G still available at similar-to-less prices, I guess it is a bit of a toss-up.

Looking forward to having a TV with eArc for my Sonos Arc.

BTW, there's a problem with Samsung TVs with the One Connect box (Frame, 95T) using eArc so if you're planning on using eArc avoid those.

Heathcotes have the 65" for $4,298 plus you get $1,500 off a second stocked Samsung product. If you have two buyers you could essentially purchase one at $4298, use the $1,500 saving to purchase a second at $2,149 and a total of $7,096 ($3,548 each). Question is, would they allow you a second $1,500 saving for use on another product... you can see where this goes...

Yes, the TV was delivered at 8:30 this morning.

I suspect the price will drop again for the black Friday and cyber Monday deals in November.

That was my main reason for TV too - have never had a big TV before. Was set on the Sony 55" X95G mostly for the Full Array/Local Dimming. I ended up getting one of the last of the 2019 Panasonic GX740 65" in May, 65" compared to 55" for approx $500 less than the 55" Sony.

UI is a bit clunky - hard to search Youtube for example without voice search (can be fixed by linking an Alexa or similar), but seems to have dark enough blacks for my untrained eye.

Interesting, I had double-checked it. Looks like they've changed the discounts as the 65Q80T was also $1500 and it's now $600.
