Another clue to the end of physical media I found from browsing the Mighty Ape website. It looks like they order an unknown number of a new release film on 4K Ultra HD, and once its gone they don't re-stock. Many titles are only available new or used through marketplace sellers.

If a film title has a message of "only three left", then there won't be any more when those "three" are gone, except maybe from the marketplace.

My original intentions for this thread was to keep everyone up to date with New Zealand 4K Ultra HD releases. I then decided to add the Australian release schedule as well. This has taken up far too much of my time, and I am going to revert to my original plan of NZ release schedules. I'm sure that die hard collector's will do their own online searches, this thread will lean more to the casual buyer who doesn't want to pay the costs of importing.

Physical media is slowly on the way out, and we should probably be hoping for improvements on Digital platforms such as iTunes; bitstreaming being at the top of my list.

I shall now be posting only NZ releases in the weekly schedules. Thanks for your support.

Just a quick word on Disney's physical media plans going forward.

We in NZ can only purchase 4K Ultra HD Disney movies from our digital providers (iTunes etc.). It seems that even Europe haven't had, or aren't getting, any of the latest 4K Ultra HD physical releases since Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Standard 4K Ultra HD physical releases of The Little Mermaid, Elemental and the soon to be released Haunted Mansion; are only available from the Disney Movie Club (DMC), which is restricted to residents of the US. There are Limited Editions available from Best Buy (SteelBooks) or Walmart (Special Editions), however, both retailers don't ship outside of the US and these Limited Editions have a Premium price tag.

One idea being debated is that the titles which need buyers to have a DMC membership, are films that didn't do well at the box-office, although Elemental and The Little Mermaid did reasonably well compared to Haunted Mansion. So, thoughts now go to Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, which performed rather badly at the box-office. Will Indy get a country wide US and international 4K Ultra HD release, or will it be another DMC/Limited Edition release?

Whatever happens, it seems that Disney are shooting themselves in the foot by limiting these new 4K Ultra HD releases, and thumbing their noses at physical media collectors, who have supported Disney for many years. Someone needs to tell Disney that all movie lovers don't actually go to cinema's, and it is those people who are likely to boost a films intake. The more that they try to push me toward a Disney+ subscription, the more resolute I am not to be bullied into it. 😠

I stand corrected on my previous post. THE LITTLE MERMAID is getting a 4K Ultra HD release in the UK on October 2nd, but so far ELEMENTAL and HAUNTED MANSION are not.
