Does this mean Sky doesnt have to come and run another wire to the decoder? Seems to be working fine right now without the second wire?

When they want to expand to other satelites they'll still need to run additional lines.

Amazing!

Was really hacked off that the MySky HD didn't perform as described in the manual provided. Then, without SkyTV telling me anything, they punch up a new OS which, presumably, matches what the decoder was supposed to do in the first place!

Now, if I wasn't following Geekzone, how would I know that suddenly I had a new facility?

If I go into settings signal test, all 4 tuners show up.

The signal strength has gone up massively, with two tuners - the second one was between 41-51 Db, first tuner was fine at around 70DB. All four tuners are now at around 70.

With two tuners still did record two channels ok, just a little worrying that only 1 bar (which was red) on signal strength for 1 tuner. Quality always been at maximum, even in bad weather.

For me all four tuners now consistenly have a signal strength of 77-78db, much better than before.

The BOP - Auckland game looks fantastic tonight on Sky Sports 1, the best picture in a HD rugby broadcast I've seen to date.

I think thay've enabled it out of bad press from the grief they have been gettin from customer's, mainly from this site. If it is that easy to enable, why didn't they do it from the start (he say's tongue in cheek)

oh yeah if its that easy to enable how about enabling the e-sata to increase storage space or even maybe give us the ethernet port so we could use it as a media player mmmmm that would be nice.

I read someone that Foxtel weren't scheduled to enable their 3rd channel until September, so presumably Sky's firmware comes from the same provider.

Hi All,

I have just joined this site, after i sticky beaked looking for an answer to a Mysky problem the fault code C029
Lot's of good idea's.
I was interested about the I.R interferance problem..
I am deaf & use a I.R headset that is set next to the decoder ( 2nd one in 2 weeks due to fault's )
does any-one think there may be a connection ?

I also use an I.R. headset (for privacy when one of use doesn't want to participate in the current programme). The output used to be connected to the audio amplifier output of the TV set, but after the installation of MySky HD it was connected to the (volume controlled) audio output of the MySky.

Because of this we keep the MySky audio output to the full setting and control volume via the headphone.

We have no problem with MySky that can be identified as due to the use or proximity of the headphones.

Thank you for taking the time to reply..
my I.R headphones are connected to the t.v
so the rest of the family can set the volume to 'normal' and i can turn the 'cans' volume up to suit me
i have rung sky , and also sent them an email request to sort out the play back fault ( C029 )
still no joy...

Yes, you should insist that Sky restore your headphone settings to work as they did before.

My installers just disconnected my headphone connections and left them hanging in thin air! I complained, and the next installer reconnected them to the decoder directly. This works -- sort of! The problem is that when we use our HD recorder on a commercial DVD we don't get any sound through the headphones, because they are now connected to the MySky decoder which is not in use when we are watching a DVD. We seem to be surrounded by idiots!

Why can't we still use the TV source? You can bet that we will be asking this question of Sky.

The DVD programme we are currently watching is "24". My wife and I are both "senior citizens" and the actors in this series talk very naturally -- ie. they mumble. The clenched jaw stuff! Prior to the MySky installation, my wife always used the headphones to help focus in on the dialogue. So now she can't do that.

So the matter you originally raised is not of little importance. It will matter to a lot of people.

Would you beleve... all sky problem's are solved.. For the moment, anyway.
got rid of the code 029 - unable to play back - whilst on the phone to them, they reprogramed the sky card.. i pressed a few botton's - and Bingo problem fixed..

as for my I.R headphone's I have pluged the tx lead's in to the audio output socket's @ the back of the set. So I can hear the program that is on the t.v....

So

all round....

Two MySky HDi units.
Unit 1: Signal Strength 1 71 dBuv, Signal Strength 2 71 dBuv
Unit 2: Signal Strength 1 52 dBuv, Signal Strength 2 62 dBuv
While unit 1 has a higher signal strength it has had a few lockups and failed to record a couple of times. Unit 2 has not missed a beat; go figure.
All those above signal strenghts are fine, should be no issues with them at all, BER/Quality are more important. I suggest the lockups are not related to signal input conditions in your situation.Cyril

While both units now have 4 tuners active unit 2 has one of the four tuners showing BER/Quality as either unlocked or one bar. Turned unit off then back on; only change was which tuner was unlocked. Picture appears to be OK but yet another little quirk.

So much to learn, so little time.

Now things seem to be on the improve I booked MySkyHDi on Monday afternoon for installation Wednesday morning. Quick service in Hamilton.

I am also wanting to know if it is worth getting a TV tech to tune my new HDTV for an optimal picture quality. As I have it set straight out of the box...can a tech achieve better picture quality? Could I pay extra and get the Sky installer to fine tune my HDTV for me? I am thinking of ringing Panasonic and asking them if they recommend a TV tech in Hamilton.
