cyril7: The HDi has 2x the disc space, so for recording SD channels it will give you pretty much 2x the capacity, all depends on how much the partition off for On Demand. Obviously HD channels will use 2-3x more disc space per hr.

It appears that they have updated the Sky website a little and in the sign up section it gives you the option to take up MySky HDi without HD service and it lets you choose between a $50 fee plus $15p/m or a one off $599 fee.

And I could be wrong, but the MySky 1 option has gone for new subscribers and there are also 2 options which I've never seen before, Additional Outlet & Signal Split.

Signal Split

This will allow you to move the SKY decoder from one position in the home to another. The standard cost is $89.90 for each signal split. Additional charges may apply.

Additional Outlet
This will allow you to watch the same SKY channel on one other television in the same home. The standard cost is $49.90 per split. Additional charges may apply.

So when can we get MySky HDi?

The website only allows a new signup with HDi, there is no option for existing subscribers to upgrade.

And no mention of TV3 in HD. Does anyone know if you need the HD ticket to view TV3 in HD?

Reference to the Additional Outlet is interesting, as I understand it there is no RF Out on the myskhd so I wonder how they are going to do it - presumably composite and two audio? can't imagine you would get component or even svideo for that price

I think the MySky HDi is great! There are some obvious flaws like no rf out but the logic in that is that its a HDPVR and rf wont do HD-so why put it in?A/Os ok but multiroom is better and with the offer of 4 free months for keeping your multiroom and free instalation,who wouldnt take it up! Functionality is the same as the original MySky

Give them a call - The Sky website is still under construction - so to speak. About a month ago the Sky official spokesperson said that the website will be getting a facelift to offer customers control on their account. I phoned them 3 weeks ago and I'm getting upgraded on July 29th - which is the day they first roll out the box. You'll probably have to wait until the end of August by the look of things for the next available installation date (depending on where you are).

Yeah it is a little unclear on their website.

From my understanding, you can upgrade from Digital to MyskyHDi for $49 installation and $15 a month for as long as you want it. So this $15 payment does not stop after you have paid the $599...I don't think I would go for that option unless payments cease after $599 has been paid off.

Or you can pay upfront $599 .

MySky1 option is still there for current Sky Subscribers.

I will phone them tomorrow to confirm things. I would like a "pay it off" term, like hire purchase for the boxes but not if it is an ongoing monthly charge. But I doubt sky has that type of account functionality.

Anyone know the answer to this question?

I called Sky a week ago and they told me that I can take the HDi for $50 installation (I already have MySky) and don't have to pay for the $10 HD ticket, but I won't get HD on the free channels like TV3. I still need the HD ticket for that. If that's the case then there is little point at the moment (for me) in the HDi unit

Would like this independantly confirmed if possible as it is a go/no go decision for me.

I've been told that too by Sky. Anyone heard anything aboutt Prime going in HD by the end of the year on Sky? Thats what I've heard.

$49.23 - Startup
$10.00 - ticket
$15.00 - monthly rental (or fork up $600 up front for something you don't own)
$16.27 - sport
$19.76 - movies
TOTAL: $110.26

Also, don't programs need to be recorded in HD? I'm assuming that Sky are just going to upscale movies? If so, then it's not true HD is it?

All content broadcasted in HD is made using HD cameras. Movies will be Full 1080i.

Strange notion, why would Sky go to all this expense and effort to broadcast SD material on HD channels. Movies will be off HD masters supplied presumably on HDCAM (sony industry standard) to Sky in HD. The HDi will record HD streams to disc as it receives them so will replay them in HD if received that way.

Just an update for those thinking of going down this path (ie taking HDi but without the $10 HD Ticket). I called Sky again and asked the same question a number of ways and got the same response as last time.......without the $10 HD Ticket you will not get any HD content even that broadcast on the "free" channels like TV3 or Prime (when it comes).

For example if you take just the Startup package (no Sport or Movies), then to get TV3 HD content in HD you need to pay another $10.

The CSR said those with the HD Ticket will get a different smartcard. Those that don't take the ticket will use their current smartcard in the HDi box and this will not allow HD

Bummer, sort of blows HDi for me.

I think that you got some bad advice from the CSR. I asked SKY's MySKY HDi technical team leader in CS whether you get TV3 HD if you don't pay the $10 per month and the answer was 'yes'. And there won't be a different card for MySKY HDi customers with or without HD enabled - it will be the same card (as used in the MySKY1) with different services.
