Sony X9000H TV turned up today, was a little surprised to get the call on a public holiday. It’s now mounted on the wall, apps installed, display settings tweaked. Wife is very impressed regards the 4K detail, our previous TV was a decent Panasonic Plasma but this is a nice improvement.

I grabbed a x90h on the weekend too, very impressed with the TV so far. To be honest OLED was not worth the extra money at this point in time. I am also the type of person who would get a bit stressed out by possibly burn in etc..

The X90H club is growing!

Some people think it’s crazy but I put mine on the Vivid picture setting and loved how vivid and bright everything was, so it has stayed there. Was very impressed how nice it was out straight out of the box though.

Is the CX coming back? It seems out of stock in Australia too...

What is the difference between the BX and CX?

It doesn't seem like there are any other OLED options with HDMI 2.1 for 4k120hz?

Finally saw the X90H today - that'll do. Now to play the waiting game.

It will be back eventually. Like a lot of other FMCGs, the supply chains are still playing catch up from the effects of this year.

The CX and BX are quite close
, with the BX getting a different stand, only 2 HDMI 2.1 ports vs. the CX's 4, and a slightly lower spec processor, meaning slightly better picture quality on the CX. I'm gonna say you would only notice the difference on that last point if you compared the two side-by-side though. If you have never owned an OLED before, you will still be blown away.

Not currently, no. The only other OLED currently with HDMI 2.1 is a Vizio TV that is not even available here. To be honest, it is still in its very early stages of roll-out, so I wouldn't make it a must-have requirement, just a nice-to-have.

Even for next-gen consoles, how much difference that makes is up for debate; it is probably only going to be lower graphically intense multi-player modes/games that really make use of it and they will probably have to render at a lower res to hit 120fps anyway.

I ordered a 65" CX at the beginning of October, I've been given an ETA of around 25th November.

Sounds like there are multiple issues with the x90h including 120hz displaying with a blur.

Reddit has a whole "mega thread" setup to track issues.

Anyone come across any of these?

I wonder if we will get black friday/boxing day deals on the LG OLEDs this year. Seems like NL are ordering them in very limited numbers, and for individual preorders. Makes sense considering the chaotic year we've had anyway. Tempted on a panasonic 65 GZ1000 clearance sales (around 3200$) but i really want HDMI 2.1 for gaming

The latest patch enabled HDMI 2.1 and Earc, the latter having various bugs on top of the blur issue including clicking TV’s, sound disappearing, TV starting randomly etc. There are workarounds except for Earc, don’t enable that until the next patch seems to be the recommendation.

There is a lot of overreaction however the 120hz is definitely an issue for those who want to connect via their PC as a monitor. Many purchased this TV with that as a primary use case and they are rightly feeling frustrated when 120hz is blurrier than 60hz.

The early responses from Sony via various sources are not promising referring to ‘optimization for gaming’ but things could still be resolved in a future update we will have to see. At the very least Sony should be able to provide an option that provides ‘high clarity’ instead of ‘smooth viewing’ for gaming. The impact on 120hz gaming is unknown, it will work just fine, but will it be the best experience compared to other TV’s is an interesting question.

While Asia Pacific hasn’t received the patch on Sony’s site there are links on AVforums to manually download it. I decided to go that route as I have a simple use case with a Soundbar and Xbox one and I wanted the AppleTV app.

I had a random TV startup during the night, and my Soundbar lost sound next time I used it, however after applying the workarounds that are documented in the thread I have not had any further issues, and the AppleTV app is working well

i should add that while I successfully applied the patch it is not recommended to apply an update before it is officially available on your countries support site, at the very least you should do your research, understand the risks, and have an issue you want to resolve before doing so.

You will have missed the boat on a GZ1000 unless its demo/floor stock. There are no more coming into NZ and NL, HN etc are sold out.

I'd be very surprised if we see any really good deals at all on any TV's (and consumer electronics as a whole) this year. There are such limited stocks available from all manufacturers due to supply issues that there is zero reason to offer any significant discounting.

I'd pick that Black Friday / Cyber Monday will be pretty quiet this year, there are so many retailers that are suffering supply chain issues. Boxing Day sales may potentially be subdued as well, and I've both heard and read of many retailers both in Aussie and NZ who are seeing issues with stock for Xmas and the summer season will is being dalayed significantly. The upside of this is that it could mean some good deals in Jan / Feb if stock is delayed and needs to be gone..

I second that.

I work for a company that gets the majority of their stock from overseas suppliers and we are only just getting shipments from orders we placed back in March. The ports and shipping are just so congested with backlogs as well as overseas factories working with minimal staff to help reduce the spread of Covid. We were told that a lot of retail shops wont be getting any of their Christmas stock in till early next year. Some of our suppliers aren't taking new orders now till next year.

Even though we are lucky to be in NZ during this pandemic, it's still affecting us in other ways!

A salesperson once pointed out to me that most are sold with a new product warranty and the OEM has no idea that it is a display model, apart from higher usage hours. LG in particular seem to be quite generous with their warranty (and even just outside that) when it comes to burn-in/uneven-wear.

My only concern would just the general wear over time for OLEDs, so if you are comfortable losing a few years off at the end of its life, it could be worth it. We are talking like 8000+ hours though for 2018+ models though. While they will have most likely been cranked up on brightness, most will have not had static images, so wear is likely to be more uniform.

Is that a GZ1000 though? I know they were trying to flog off some EZ950s not too long ago.
