cyril7: Sky Sports 1&2 go 16:9 by the end of this month (July) others will follow next month. Most other channels will go 16:9 in next couple of months. Talking the current SD channels here, not HD which naturally will be 16:9.

I've noticed that the Sky website guide lists most TV3 shows as being in HD in the description.

good point, they haven't started doing that with Sky Sport stuff yet (eg Monday Night League)

Anyone know if the HD Sports channels will be in addition to or instead of SD channels?

The HD channels will have to be in addition to the exisitng channels as they are transmitted on DVB-S2 MUX's which the legacy decoders cannot recieve.

I believe the HD streams will carry the same content and probably share the same channel number with individual decoders being pointed to the appropriate stream (i.e HD or SD) depending on your subscription. I hope Cyril is correct that the SD streams of SS1/SS2 will go 16:9 at the same time since it wouldn't be difficult to split off the SD feed and crop it to 4:3 prior to transmission, thus keeping the widescreen for "enhanced" subscriptions like HD and Rugby Channel. We are retaining one SD box and will be rather annoyed if only one feed is widescreen.

I'll let you know in two weeks...

Hi all

I saw an item in the DomPost today that STB manufacturers are talking to Sky and TVNZ about building a STB box that will perform both MySkyHDi and Freeview transmission and respect the commercial interests of both Sky and TVNZ!! I understand that the MySkyHDi can technically do it today, but then this is a Sky developed system!

About time and makes perfect sense. Does anyone have any further concrete information that they can share as I really don't want to commit to 2 boxes when one will be forthcoming.

Yes. This is what we have arranged. The CSR had to check, but after doing so advised that this qualifies for Free Multiroom for 4 months, and Free HD ticket while Multiroom is active.

We are just going to keep the multiroom until the 4 months is up.

The article was about reception of Freeview HD (DVB-T H.264) + Sky DVB-S/DVB-S2. As the MySkyHDi does NOT have a DVB-T tuner your understanding is completely wrong.

That may be so, but at the moment we have the ridiculous situation where Sky and Freeview each transmit an SD stream of most FTA channels off the same satellite. Why can't they get together and pool resources to have both FV and Sky boxes pick up the same stream (assuming they could technically receive the same MPEG2 signal if it was not encrypted?). Maybe the extra bandwidth released could then be used to stream the FTA channels in HD via satellite, again to both sets of users. Sure this would require a new FV satellite box to get the HD stream but since Freeview has no plans to extend DVB-T beyond the 9 locations currently being rolled out it is next to useless to those of us living outside the main centres.

Hey Guys, someone else may have asked this already.

Does anyone know if the New HDi box allows a HD TV to be connected via the HDMI connection, PLUS another standard TV connected via the Composite connector at the same time? (watching the same channel obviously)? I want to utilise distributed video around the house and am happy for it to be SD via composite but want the LCD in the lounge to be recieving HD.

Yes this is possible. You should be able to use any of the connections at the same time to show the same channel, though as i understand it the HD will only be through HDMI.

PS Booked in for the 3rd of September (quite a wait just over 7 weeks time, considering im in the middle of Auckland, there must be alot of installers around here). I can also confirm that they offered 4 months free multiroom to keep the standard stb that we have ( no existing multiroom contract) obviously took them up on the offer as it saves $10 a month on HD ticket and gives another decoder free.
