Caketiger: Ordered the LG CX 55" from Harvey Norman Mount Roskill today for $3,200. Sales guy said they only had a couple left - who knows if he says that to everyone. Last day at that price is tomorrow if you're interested. Delivery tomorrow. My first OLED - excited!

Nice! If you’re a subscriber, watching a Dolby Vision movie on Disney+ really shows what the set can do.

.... and more so if you have HT speakers that support Dolby Atmos audio. Quite a few shows on Netflix send Atmos if your TV can handle it - as the CX can.

Just turned on our LG C8 and found there was an update available for WebOS - 05.30.02.

This is the long-promised and long-awaited update that brings AirPlay to the C8 - brings it in line with the C9 which received AirPlay earlier in the year.

Thanks for the heads up. Just updated my W8. Anything else besides Airplay?

I did search for some release notes but didn’t really come up with anything - mainly people talking about C8 and AirPlay on places like Twitter. A bit frustrating in that respect. LG don’t seem to be very forthcoming.

When I said Twitter in my above post, I meant Reddit. This is the only thing I could find:

https://www.reddit.com/r/OLED/comments/i31uu7/new_052002_software_for_lg_c8_oled/

At least one poster, a day ago, said that 05.30.02 brings AirPlay and HomeKit. I can confirm the AirPlay.

The 8 Series TVs (like the 9 Series) received the ATV+ app some months ago. One poster said that this brought Dolby Vision and Atmos but I’m not too sure about that.

Edit: Also found some recent scraps on Whirlpool forums including confirmation of HomeKit:

Yes. The only way I could get Airplay to work was by registering the TV with HomeKit. Even then it is really flaky. Airplay worked straight away on my 2019 Samsung Frame but with the LG it seems more difficult. Never mind I’ll just Airplay through the attached AppleTV4K for reliable operations. I was hoping for full voice assistant, but that is obviously a pipe dream.

The (previous) ATV update to the TV does have Dolby Vision and Atmos.

Glad i found this forum

Our LG 4k LED kicked the bucket during the week (barely 3 years old) so went into have a look at a new TV yesterday.

I am basically stuck between the 55' Panasonic HZ1000 and the 55' LG CX - a bit iffy about buying another LG if it'll only last 3 years and its $600 more than the PS.

For the difference in price I'd take the HZ1000 easily.

3 years old seems a bit short. Have you tried calling the place you bought the LG from and asking for it to be repaired under consumer law?

https://www.consumerprotection.govt.nz/help-product-service/electronics-and-appliances/product-life-maintenance-and-care/

If something breaks after the manufacturer's warranty expires, you might still have the right to get it fixed under the Consumer Guarantees Act. The CGA does not give a time limit. It says a product must last a reasonable amount of time.

I feel it would be right to expect at least 5 years from a TV, if not more.

I bought it from JBhifi - i can always try and see what they say - no harm. Definitely puts me off buying another LG

That should 100% be covered, the easiest way to sanity check this is to ask one of their staff "if I bought this TV, how long would you expect it to last?". CGA is all based on what is a reasonable expectation and less than 3 years isn't right for a TV (I'd say 5 minimum). You might have to be persistent and quote CGA at them a few times but they should sort it out for you without you needing to go full Karen and ask for the manager :D

Should definitely last more than three years. Go back to JB and press your case under CGA.

I contacted LG on Facebook when my 4 and 1/2 year old set had a screen issue , all I said was that I expected it to last longer than that , they sent me to a repair agent who replaced the panel no charge no argument .

There was a small WebOS update a couple of days ago. AirPlay now works on my W8 without having to use my ATV4K.

Thanks all. I contacted LG NZ and have dropped the TV at Hanlons Repair which will be covered under extended CGA warranty. Hopefully hear back from them tomorrow.

Nice work . Unfortunately now you don't have an excuse to buy an OLED 😄
