Currently in Sydney, sponsored by Sony. They are running an event here to introduce the new X90J (LED, mid-range) and A90J (OLED) TVs. Local (and visitors such as myself) are invited to stay overnight at this hotel and they've replaced the TVs in our rooms with the Sony X90J - connected to a dedicated broadband service, with Amazon Prime, Netflix, Disney+ and Apple TV+ services for us to try the TVs with whatever content we want.

The sound and picture on the A90J (OLED) are amazing - the Dolby Atmos demo just blew us away. The X90J in our rooms is not too shabby either - the sound dynamically changes to move around you depending on the TV scene and it's just great. Currently watching Bad Batch on Disney+ but soon to get on John Wick - that's great content to check 4K HDR.

The New Zealand prices are listed here: New Sony Bravia XR LED and OLED models available in New Zealand (geekzone.co.nz)

Is this TV tipped as the hotly anticipated model for 2021\2022. If one was in the market for a new TV, would this be the go to option or is something else coming about.

Does one explore 8k now?

My C1 OLED got the latest firmware update pushed yesterday which was pushed to US and UK models last week. It has now added support for 120Hz Dolby Vision gaming for Xbox Series. I get all green ticks now under the TV compatibility on Xbox. The coolest feature is a gaming bar. When I am playing on Xbox, I can now press the cog gear/settings button on the remote and it brings a small game bar at bottom displaying live fps count which is usually 119fps when I am playing Battlefield V, whether low latency mode is enabled or not and I can toggle it and black screen option that I can change on the fly. Awesome update.

Do whatever you want to do man.

Does one explore 8k now?

8k is still a thing that manufacturers are trying to make happen, but until there is actual 8k content, there is zero benefit over 4k. And realistically, given the average seating distance, there is almost no benefit to 8k full-stop, since you either need to be within a couple of meters for conventional sizes, or be buying in the ~100" range, to perceive meaningful differences

The C1 is virtually the same as the CX with some minor improvements (which in turn is the same story as the C9) but it is a still a great TV and easily one of the best OLEDs at that price point.

The only really new developments with OLEDs in 2021 are models with the new Evo Panel like the LG G1 or Sony A90, which is supposed to bring higher peak brightness, and more models getting HDMI 2.1 feature support. In reality, it sounds like the Evo equipped models have yet to deliver truly meaningful gains when compared to improved panels like the Panasonic xZ2000 lineup.

LG has also released a cheaper OLED model in the A1, but it's a dim 60hz panel with no HDMI 2.1 features, so not really worth the trade-offs IMO. Especially when JB-Hifi is making the curious decision to sell them for more than the C1... at least the 48" C1 model is available on our shores now.

Have just ordered the 65" X95H from JB for $2497

Can anyone tell me the difference between 'Google TV' on the X90J, and the 'Google TV Interface' on the X95H?

Someone on Reddit suggested they weren't the same.

I procrastinated over the last year about buying a 65A8H and waited and waited. Went into NL today to have a look at the new  A80J and walked out with a 65A8H for $3.6k.

Finally happy :)

Noels Dunedin offered me one for $4400 which was "staff price" I'm waiting until it's under 4k. It's a want not a need, and 4k is still a lot of money for a TV.

Seen an X85J listed as 'new' at some places.

Looks to have the 200hz motionflow capability at a bit of a discount.

Anyone know the difference between the X90J and the X85J?
