Finch: Hey guys.

So I bought the Sony MDR10RBT Headphones a month or so ago. I never really used them when I got them, just tested them out and seemed to be ok. However recently I have been trying to get them to work and they aren't. I charged them up recently and just now tried to pair with my laptop and got the message "That didn't work. Try Again and make sure your Bluetooth headset is still discoverable." My phone (HTC One) cant even see the headphones. So my phone doesn't see the headphones, but my laptop sees but doesn't pair.

Am I doing something wrong here with the pairing? Because the first headphones I bought from Amazon didn't really work either, now this isn't pairing.

I haven't tried with a wire yet.

Bluetooth can be very flakey. Very often it depends on what Bluetooth protocols are equipped on the various devices.

I'd guess the problem is't necessarily with your headphones. It's possible your laptop doesn't have an audio profile for Bluetooth. I'm not sure what the problem is with your phone. I know the HTC One I had would connect to the Parrot car handsfree kit for phone calls but wouldn't connect to play the turn by turn audio from Google Maps.

Hopefully it's just a minor blip and you find out the trick for getting the headphone connected.

Hmm.. just wondering how many people here have bluetooth headphones and if there is a particular one that you would recommend? I have gone through quite a few headphones myself but been looking at the idea of getting a bluetooth pair. Been quite intrigued by the Sony ones that occasionally get marked down by 50%. Any advice that people would like to offer?

From my preliminary readings, I have also narrowed down Jabra Revo wireless as well as Sol Republic Air tracks.

The nice thing about the BT Headphones is they integrate with your phone and if it rings pauses the music, you can skip/pause tracks, change volume etc from the headphone itself.

Hi all,

I vacillated earlier this year regarding noise cancelling headphones when I was doing a bit of travelling and my old philips ones crapped out. It came down to Bose or PSBs. I think the Bose had better cancelling (it is amazing how a shop's noise like JB HiFi can disappear). In the end I went for the PSBs. They were around $70 cheaper. Most of the reviews rate them very highly from an audiophile's POV and I would agree. Makes even airplane movies engrossing. The advantages in my mind were better sound, good noise cancelling (and I have been very pleased with them on flights) and the ability to still work when the battery went (which the Bose can't). Disadvantages are the size compared to bose esp for travelling and that the noise cancelling provides amplification so the captain's messages on planes tries to burst your ear drums (as these messages are not broadcast at the same volume you have set the movie to). Haven't had any hot ear problems either.
Overall very happy with my decision.

I planned on getting myself the MDR-1RBT MKIIs, but couldn't get them for the right price (50% off) at the time.

I am however very happy with the MDR-10RBTs. They support APT-X and have a good battery life. Pretty good sound paired with the Note 3. At only $150 with the 50% off I believe they deliver excellent bang for buck

People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.

Where did you get the PSB's? Is there any where in Auckland you can try them out?

I don't know much about headphones, but I want some good noise cancelling fro my next set. I have had some Phillips ones that barely made any difference to the hum you get on a plane, my Beats (cheap ones with no active noise cancelling are better, but that humming gets me!

And what sort of $$$ are you looking at for the PSB's?

It is time to get serious with my headphones!

I'd take 10% less noise cancelling (if it's even that) and the 50% better sound quality, and legendarily good customer service (Headphones replaced and upgraded after 5 years (twice) of the Blackbox M10's over the Bose.

If you travel a lot I rate the Blackbox C20 in ear noise cancelling ear plugs. They do a pretty good job of blocking out the rumbling drumming noise you get in an aircraft cabin.

They're very comfortable to wear and fit in a sturdy compact carry case which has pockets for the included 6.5mm and aircraft adapters, and there's room for a spare battery as well.

Unlike some noise cancelling headphones the audio can still be heard with a flat battery.

I have, they're fine.

The best place though, by a very wide margin indeed, is Computer Lounge in Auckland (they are online also).

You'll find many people recommend Computer Lounge, which has a large range (see link). While I've not bought headphones off them, I've bought other products and found them excellent to deal with (including warranty claims). For what it's worth, they've won Pricespy's store of the year three times in a row. Further, they don't charge for delivery.

Yes, I have purchased the headphones I currently have from Computer Lounge. I did have a bad experience with them, (they accepted my order, said they had stock, but due to stock problems I had to wait a month before I finally gave up and cancelled my order) but I take it from your comments that was bad luck.

Computer Lounge doesn't seem to have the SoundMagic Headphones I was looking for, but it is nice to know if I decide to buy them I can get them from Sound Essentials. Thanks guys.
