DEAD END DRIVE-IN (1986)

Release Date Australia: March 20th • Release Date NZ: TBA

Umbrella Entertainment proudly presents the worldwide first of Dead-End Drive-In with stunning 4K Ultra HD (Blu-ray disc included)!

Featuring a new completely uncut scan from the 35mm interpositive that hasn't been seen since its VHS release! Also includes the international cut.

This visionary, turbo-charged Ozploitation gem in the ultimate high-octane collectors edition. Buckle up!

From famed Ozploitation auteur Brian Trenchard-Smith and acclaimed author Peter Carey comes this offbeat, Day-Glo, dystopian cult classic.

Boasting hordes of post apocalyptic punks, fist fights, car chases and world record breaking stuntwork – all accompanied by a soundtrack of new wave Aussie classics – DEAD END DRIVE-IN stands proudly as Quentin Tarantino’s favourite Trenchard-Smith movie, with the celebrated filmmaker declaring it “an exceptional piece of work.

Australia in the not-too-distant future: the economy has collapsed, unemployment has reached epidemic proportions, looting is widespread and violent ‘carboy’ gangs run amuck in the streets. To combat the teen crime wave the authorities have converted the Star drive-in theatre into a maximum-security prison camp for delinquent youth! Wrongly incarcerated in this juvenile lockup are working class guy Crabs (Ned Manning) and his spunky, streetwise girlfriend Carmen (Natalie McCurry). Unlike most of the inmates, who are happy to live on a steady diet of junk food and exploitation movies, Crabs is determined to do whatever it takes to break out.

Going through JBs 20% off 4K list. Still can't find anything I want that isn't still totally overpriced, I've got already, or is just rubbish.

Same here with JB's 4k sale, didn't purchase a thing.  I think the 2023 Black Friday purchases from JB of 17 4k movies will be my last big haul from them. It's good for the bank balance, but sad too that a large number of good future releases will not reach this country.

Howdy,

JB Hi-Fi in Palmy has just stocked up on a bunch of Arrow 4k and Blu-ray titles, including Tremors (both formats), Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas (blu), Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (both), King of New York (Both), Battle Royale (4k), American Werewolf in London (blu), Weird Science (blu), 12 Monkeys (both), Robocop (blu), Naked Lunch (both), .

Assume it's the same at all stores. 4k are $50, blu ray $30. I'd be interested to know if Fear & Loathing and Weird Science are available on 4k at other stores, as they're the ones I'm keenest on.

None of the titles appear on the JB website.

Rumour has it that THE CROW (1994) and THE DEPARTED (2006) will both be getting a release on 4K Ultra HD later this year. Unfortunately these two titles are being released by Paramount and Universal respectively. Since the two studios are not distributing their own titles and preferring to use local Australian distributors; its likely that we will have to import them, as neither studio seem interested in releasing their catalogue titles in Australia. Concentrating on new releases only.

Warner Bros. via Roadshow, are still churning their catalogue titles out at regular intervals (Contagion having been announced recently). I am hoping that Paramount, Universal and Sony will re-consider their stance on catalogue releases in Australia, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Sorry, got my studios mixed up. THE DEPARTED is, of course a Warner Bros. title, so we can expect a release in Australasia.
