I purchased the Panasonic 65" JZ1000 today. Planned delivery is this Sunday.

Process was painful due to stores either not having it on display or not having it connected so I was unable to get any demo of it until today. Experienced really incompetent service with staff not even engaging with me to discuss TV’s or not making an effort at all to demo something even on similar/different sized options.

I went back to one person at Harvey Norman who was pleasant to deal with the first time when I played with the LG C1. After tracking down a remote, then I updated the software on it so YouTube would run, 20min later I was finally able to spend some time on the JZ1000. Sales person was really nice which ended in a sale. Why on earth these places which have not had customers inside for weeks could not bother getting TV’s set up and ready to go just baffles me.

Just pulled pin on the JZ1000. Got it online at Noels for $3,896.00. Annoyed the salesman was only going to let it go last night for $4200 in store and told me it wouldnt be any better for Black Friday. Heading in tomorrow to get a vaccum so will let him know I bought it cheaper elsewhere.

Does anyone know what my chances are of getting an LG OLED on Friday if I go into Harvey Normans?  I'm assuming there wont be any more of a discount but now a bit worried about stock levels. I'm in Wellington and the Porirua and Hutt stores are showing stock. Not sure if I should just buy online now or go into store on Friday and try to 'haggle' a lower price.

I doubt that anyone here knows this - unless they work for HN, in which case ‘mum’. My guess is that LG OLEDs are in hot demand and short supply right now. Unlikely to be discounted on Friday. If you want one, I’d get it now because FOMO.

Also you may wish to read the posts over the past few days in this thread

If you want to haggle, go to a store that you know has stock - but go sooner rather than later. My experience with haggling on a C1 55” in HN and JB about 10 days ago is reported in the thread linked above, here

Well, sorry, I got this very wrong. Turns out I might have saved a few hundred if I had waited two weeks on our C1 55". I'm glad no-one seems to have acted on what has turned out to be faulty advice.

At the time there appeared to be only a small number of C1's around. Despite all that, we love the new telly as will others who are going to be proud owners as from today. We also upgraded Sonos Beam to Gen 2 - which the C1 can feed Dolby Atmos - nice.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

So, worth going in to JB Hifi to pick up the LG C1 today if I can?

I did it. :)

Went to Noel Leeming (Flybuys) and the online price was $2492.  Salesperson checked on his device and it scanned as $2489. Woohoo - $3 saving!  Gonna treat myself to half a hot chocolate this morning! :)

But now it will sit in its box for a month.  I won't be moving until after Christmas, so have about 5 weeks to wait to enjoy it.

It might be worth going back to see if you can get the difference? I tried asking for lower on the day that but the guy was firm and said not to worry, just come back later if it’s lower.

Went back yesterday and got the difference back for my c1 48”. Someone mentioned they were doing price guarantee at HN till boxing day.

Ugh I might be able to get a C1 for a decent price... even if I can't get it, I now definitely don't want the X90 or X85 lmao

I was aware that HN have this policy but, stupidly, hadn't really thought about it regarding our recent C1 purchase.

After reading your post I thought, 'Yep, worth a shot'.

Went back to HN just now, spoke to a salesperson who put me onto the manager - who looked it up in their system and said 'no problem'. I got a refund of nearly $500. Wow.

Thanks @SpartanVXL - I owe you one.

Yes, I was blown away. Purchased 15 days ago. There was no hesitation from the manager. Sticker price two weeks ago $3,198, I paid $2,976, Black Friday price today $2,490.

I'm starting to look at moving to OLED from my faithful 50" Panasonic Plasma which I've had for 15 years. It’s still going strong at the moment but I think the time is coming to upgrade.

Originally, I was looking at the LG C1 65" as my wife does a little gaming (PS5) but now I'm starting to lean towards the Sony A80J due to it having better up-scaling & overall picture quality (as I understand from reading professional reviewers). Main use is from usual streaming services Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime etc either via the PS5 or Apple TV 4k. I would say gaming would not be more than 10% of use hence now looking at the Sony. I do have a significant video library which I occasionally use via Plex which are all 720p. I will be using existing receiver/speakers for sound.

For now, I'm considering on waiting to see if Sony actually do release an update which they have promised by the end of Jan 2022 bringing VRR (but I'm not holding my breath).

I looked at the Panasonic JZ1000 but would prefer to have the option of wall mounting together-with better up-scaling. As far as budget I am some-what flexible but only if it can be justified ie significant improvement. Hence for now I'm not looking at the top of the range as the extra cost seems to only bring a minor improvement.

I have been watching the Black Friday sales to get an idea of what prices I could hope for.

My question is am I on the right track? Are there other considerations I should think about?

What do you mean by that? Is the upscaling impacted if the JZ1000 is wall mounted?

My comment relates to separate issues. As I understand the JZ1000 has more depth to it perhaps making wall mounting more of an issue (just an issue I have seen online). While they seem to promote the swivel stand to counteract this?

As for the up-scaling I have also read that this is an area where it could look to improve on in comparison to its competitors.

I think you’re over thinking it and worrying about very minor differences. Take some reference material and go and audition the sets. I doubt you’ll see much difference, if at all, with upscaled content. It’s all lipstick on a pig.

Similarly with wall mounting, they will all be fine. Whatever you wall mount will be normal in a couple of days.

Edit: if you really want to make a difference with upscaling you’ll want an Nvidia shield with its AI upscaling.

Will concur with the scaling comment. You can adjust picture settings to an extent on most panels anyway so the quality of upscaling can vary. Only way to know if it’s acceptable is to try it on on a demo model.

Sony is slow on the feature set support though, so if gaming experience is a factor then try go for models that do support them.

Most OLEDs are cut from the same cloth (literally too, from LG display?) so regardless you’ll get a great display.
