I believe that the Ethernet connection on Sony TV's is capped at 100mbs, which is fast enough for most streaming apps. If you need a faster connection (Bravia Core, don't think available in NZ yet) you will need at least 115 mbs to stream their best quality. So wi-fi is the only way to get that speed on Sony TV's.

Unplug the ethernet connection and try connecting to wi-fi 5

Speed is fine for me The reason I wanted to add a wifi connection is because if i understand the directions for google home correctly to effect control of the tv under home it has to be on the same wifi network as google home

Are you sure it needs to be on the same WiFi network, not just the same network?

I can’t think of any GH/GA controls of a device that I lose from having a it connected via Ethernet versus wireless, so would be interested in having it confirmed that I’ve got this wrong...

They often say "same WiFi network" when they really mean "same network" because on consumer grade routers, the WiFi can be on a separate subnet and average consumers have no idea whether the WiFi and Ethernet are the same or separate.  If you run separate a separate WiFi access point, you will also need to ensure it is on the same network by bridging the WiFi and Ethernet (putting them on the same Ethernet switch or on the same VLAN if your switch does that).  If your router has a builtin switch, the same applies - you need to have the WiFi and Ethernet traffic going via the switch hardware on a layer 2 connection, not up to the routing section of the router for routing as layer 3 IP packets.

The requirement to be on the same network can frequently be only for device discover, so if there is an option to specify the IP address or DNS name, using that can make it work across subnets.
