I have yet to receive it, they have to bring one in to the branch and then deliver it (I live about 100km from the branch). I'll let you know how I get on. Thanks

All good. How's the picture quality daytime and after dark?

We're quite happy with the picture quality, day and night. I don't know if I have low expectations, but it seems similar to the plasma, maybe a bit better, even. To go with that, it's only set at 20% brightness (to conserve LED life) and we have no complaints with that brightness level. There is a curtain next to it, so reflection isn't a complete issue at the moment.

On a side topic, we were expecting to use the TV with Chromecast as it works so well historically, and I wasn't going to invest in a TV for its smart OS, however, the wife has been really enjoying Android TV and has completely gone off the Chromecast (even though it has Chromecast built in). Random note, Android TV doesn't do a great great job going between its native apps and the apps Chromecast pulls up, and you're better off not using Chromecast for a smoother experience.

The most annoying thing is searching for things or signing into accounts using the on-screen keyboard as opposed to having one built in on the remote (which the old plasma had). As well, when plugging in a 2TB harddrive, it's painfully slow to bring up all the files.

Thank you, it's exactly what I wanted to know. I ended up going with the Sony X85J, so I'm glad there was some form of logical decision.

All good. How's the picture quality daytime and after dark?

If you're asking this question you may not be happy with its darkroom performance. It was not intended by Sony for that role although typical full screen content with no to minimal dark areas will look fine. Its backlight can't dim very much which may be a product of its DC-only dimming solution, and there is no algorithmic analysis of scenes to dynamically adjust the backlight and picture for the sake of black levels. A full screen black slide is less black than on my older Panasonic IPS. Large near-black areas wash out. I wouldn't assume improvements in this area for 2022 K series for non FALD models and of course IPS units should be worse than VA.

From Sony's perspective for black levels in black rooms = OLED. Their FALD / miniLED models will do better than an X85 but it's not the same priority for them with LCDs compared with where it'd be if they didn't do OLED or where things were prior to OLED.

Sony has Appled the remote control on the 2022 K series so no subtitle and channel buttons which may be unwelcome in aerial-plugged-in households. The Sony 2021 remote model name was the RMF-TX621 or RMF-TX520 for non backlit.

"If Panasonic had been an option the JX900 would have been the in between option. Better than x85j, not as good as x90j"

For the 55" and 65" size brackets the X950 has been a similar price to the X900 but has a real non prong stand and better speakers (although the X900 speakers are already above average). You'd only buy the X900 if you were going to use an external sound system and didn't mind or weren't going to use the 55/65" X900's prongs.

I expect for the typical household the Panasonic X950Z is a much better option than most; having real speakers, a real stand, sane remote control with buttons, IPS viewing angles and being easier to use. Not many TVs still have all those qualities.

Great to hear you're happy with the performance in all conditions! The X85J can produce a brighter image than alot of TVs which gives it an edge over other options. It also means you can have lights on at night if you prefer thst to watching in a dark, light-controlled room. I actually reckon it will maintain it's brightness for years to come so you could go above 20% if need be.
I agree having smarts built into the TV is a better experience than casting.
Wow your plasma had a keyboard on the remote! Remotes are actually getting even smaller nowdays with some dropping the numberpad too.
All up it sounds like the accident resulted in an upgrade!

Wow!

Glad I got my 65 c1 for $3.5k - and I struggle to believe the new Sony is 2x better +$1.5k extra.

That said I expect all new release OLED's will drop within 6 months or so - but the prices for OLED's from all manufacturers sure did go up from last years pricing.

I wonder how many A95Ks will actually be sold at anywhere near that price. I sure wouldn't pay anywhere near that!

I got a 55 inch C1 delivered today. It’s all that and a bag of chips.

It’s ruined our big TV, I’m really not sure how long I’ll be able to put up with a Sony 85e after having the alternative.

Where did you get a C1 from? From what I've seen all retailers had cleared them out, except I did see Magness Benrow had a 48" C1 online.

fwiw 55" C2 now available at $3,145 on JBHifi, Harvey N, Noel Leeming.
