I see on the internet that there is a low risk of burn in. A while back i looked at oled tv and the sales person tried to convince me for the samsung qled. And at the time the oled tv had a burn in and it did lead me to do more research regardin the burn in factor. At boxing day sales i talked to a different salesperson at the same store and he claimed it be fine, and i shouldnt be concered.
For my uses i dont see an issue with burn in for a long time! It will be in my beedroom and it doesnt get used for many hours a week!

I think you’re right, on models for the last few years the risk is very very low, and you only really hear of it in extreme scenarios. Remember the B6 I had the issue with is a 5 year old model now, and that means panels 4 or 5 generations behind what we have today.

In case you haven't come across it before, the rtings burn in test should give you an idea of the caveats with OLEDs. The takeaway with modern OLEDs is that unless you are watching a ass-ton of content with static content (HUD in games, ticker or logo on a news channel), it will last a good long while before you have to worry about wearing out pixels.

Samsung (and sales people wanting a commission) is the worst for pushing that line about burn in, as that's the one of two ways they can try and convince you back to their inferior product.

Oh master advisor, what's your recommendation how to manage OLEDs with a gaming console? We've moved the PS4 to the HT (man, does it look good!), and while it's not used much, it's the kids using it (mostly) and they'll not give a $#@$ about this.

Also, he is of the opinion that the Sony OLEDs are better... and he's only ever seen LG OLEDs come back with burn in issues... and the sony is $100 cheaper! (he did disclose he had a Sony TV..) lol

Just be aware that the FZ1000 is a 2018 model, and lacks some features that the 2019 GZ range has. They have been trying to clear them for awhile now.

As JonoNZ said, all OLED TVs on the market currently use a LG Display panel, just different implementations of the picture processing hardware/software. Panasonic even did some panel customisation for their 2000 line that enabled to reach a higher peak brightness. In the next 5 years, I imagine we will see more panel manufacturers though.

Sony's picture and audio is great. The catch is they run Android TV. I would never recommend anybody buy a Sony TV with Android TV without at least spending some time using Android TV (even if it's in a store) because it's very polarising - you will either love it or totally hate it. I personally think WebOS is a far superior platform even though it has the disadvantage you don't have as many apps.

Ha, Master advisor... More like the guy with more opinions than he knows what to do with haha

I'll bet it would look good compared to the LG! As long as they are not playing the exact same game with the exact same HUD elements present on screen for hundreds of hours, it should be fine. Some games have modes to dim or remove HUD elements, so might not be a bad idea (tell your kids it makes the game more immersive haha). Also, making sure the brightness is down as low as it can be will help, so good light control will help.

Burn in is cumulative, so an ever-present HUD element is going to wear pixels continuously lit in that area by the game hours x intensity/brightness faster than the area around it. Other than that, just let the TV do its thing and try not to stress about it!

Absolutely agreed. The moment the guy said "I always buy everything and anything electronics with extended warranty, no questions asked..." I inner-facepalmed pretty hard - it was an interesting discussion with the person nonetheless about oleds, burn-ins, and how JB warranty works - he mentioned it doesn't cover burn-ins, and supposedly anything after the 1 year mark will not be covered by them (there was no mention of the CGA...)...

People just don't know the CGA act. But then again, I have found the CGA doesn't actually provide that much protection, if the retailer decides to not play ball. You can take them to the DT, but that can be hit and miss I have found.
I heard today of someone whose hot water cylinder has died, and it is only a few weeks out of it's 5 year warranty. Going to cost thousands to get it replaced by a plumber and all the work required. But surely that would be covered by the CGA, as who expects to have to replace a HWC after just 5 years, surely they should last longer than that, especially due to the high costs involced.

Seeing a big divergence between AU pricing and NZ pricing for the 2020 TV line-ups. There's also a lot of 2018/2019 TVs still being flogged at higher prices in NZ, considering the 2020s have launched. JB is still carrying the same range in 75"+ at the same prices, doesn't look to be much run-out pricing there.

Does anyone know when the Sony 2020 line-up is due to hit stores?

According to AV forums the Sony 2020 lineup is due in the US in September. But a noticeable omission will be the A9H.

It's amazing how much the 2018 models are still being pushed and are not discounted

Not exactly runout, Ive seen it as low as $3895.00 in March this year. But best of the current sellers, I wonder if there has been a lot of demand for TV's since COVID?
