Jaxson:

Hi team,

Can I ask please what the time periods each year for TV sales are in NZ?

Black Friday / Boxing Day likely candidates around this time, but when would we be likely to see runout deals on 2024 models before the new 2025s arrive?

Also additional info if necessary
I'm after a 65 or 75", ideally with a wide viewing angle and currently have a Sony we use for most smart features (ie not running a stick/apple tv etc for this content, running native on the device so want something semi peppy spec wise).

Thanks.

There's some older (but new) C3's for sale here

I've found that new model TVs are launched approximately between March till July every year. The main sale periods are the public holidays and then Black Friday and Boxing Day, with flash sales occasionally.

Run-out sales tend to start from February till July.

I've started to notice an issue with my G4 and the soundbar in various apps. I'm aware there is an issue with the HDMI2 port not sending video but mine is an audio problem.

I haven't been able to fully work it out yet or make it repeatable, but every now and then it sounds like the output is either switching to the tv speakers rather than the soundbar or maybe it's the difference between the sound being mono and then stereo. It just looses all the base and "volume" for a couple of seconds and then comes back again.

I haven't found anything after a basic google search but I'm going to have to try this weekend as it's happening more often.

I should mention I bought a new TV based on the info in this thread.

I had an older LG TV, one of their early 4K screens in 43". It's been a trooper and was close to ten years old. However I'd kind of being going nuts with how dark the picture was, I have a Playstation that I use rarely and I only play Gran Turismo. But even then it was really hard to see. And dark movies, impossible in the daytime. I'm used to colour grading on my laptop and would try warm the image up to no avail. Then I thought oh, there's probably a white screen on YouTube I can calibrate from.

Sure enough, the backlights were dying. Now the picture looks worse than the naked eye. But once I realised I narrowed down a new TV to roughly four all in 55"

Samsung S90D and S95D

LG C4 and G4

Went with the S95D as the relocated guts of the TV is quite nice. And the picture. Oh the picture. We can watch in broad daylight in what is a very sunny room. Almost no glare (I should have taken a picture with the plastic removed). And it's like the Playstation has leapt forward a couple of models. Edited. Am not in love with the Samsung OS.

Very cool.  Is that the style that treats it as a display panel, and the brains of the TV can be located elsewhere?
Can you effectively flat mount these very close to the wall, or do they still need ventilation at the back.?

I'm not sure about ventilation to be honest. I had quite specific size requirements so didn't want to go bigger than 55" even though you seem to get more bang for buck. It's much skinnier than I imagined and the mount is unbelievably heavy. It must be the bulk of the weight of the box it came in. I did weigh it as it was so heavy but I've forgotten what it was 🤣

The brains of the tv are in the black box beside the white Playstation.

My new TV comes tomorrow. I'm going from a Sony 65X850E to an LG 77inch B4. I came close to going MiniLED but got an excellent deal on the B4 and can't resist those inky inky blacks.

It's a room that only gets diffuse natural light so it'll be great.

I'm looking at a Sony 65" as well but have been put off by the remote with no channel buttons. What dud yours come with?

I’ve heard some Sony TVs are coming with two remotes. One full and one cut down.

I use an older IR harmony remote. Some remote functions are Bluetooth and IR so I suspect I might have some fun making it work with the harmony.

What are peoples thoughts regarding TCL TVs?

The price is extremely competitive for the specifications and capabilities supported.

Are the known brands adding a premium, because they are the go-to known brands?

Where or how does TCL manage to offer such a competitive price?

Cheers

.

I stayed in a motel  last  week with a 55" TCL .  The picture looked good and sounded OK. What their  long term longevity  will be is anyone's guess.

I have an older TCL, when a 75" for $3000 was a steal.

Its terrible.  Colors are going on it, reds are now orange.  When I turn it on, the android TV OS has to do a full boot, so takes 1 minute to turn on.  But thats an older TCL.  But taught me to never buy TCL again
