I pulled the trigger on Panasonicx TH-65GX740Z, was wanting the Sony X95G 55 originally.  Panasonic seems fine, local dimming was a requirement, and a small room so viewing angles not important.

ShinyChrome:

If you are anti-apple, there is always the multitude of Android TV devices, ranging from the cheaper Xiaomi Mi boxes to the bouty, but pricey, Nvidia Shield TV. I love my Shield TV and would never bother using a TV OS unless I have to. The Shield TV is 5 years supported by Nvidia now and still going!

As roderickh said, if you don't game on it, then HDMI 2.1 means bupkiss to you, so see if you can scoop up a deal on one of the outgoing Panasonics.

Thanks, very tempted to do exactly that

I had considered the various Android TV things and am usually Android for everything but really bought the Apple TV as a bit of an impulse buy to see what it is like - very impressive is the opinion so far.

Yeah I did a LOT of research before buying the Pana OLED. Best PQ out of the box of all OLED tv's and I'm using apple tv as well so the online and apps weren't a major sway for me. Cannot wait to get it

IMNSHO I think (for most people) it's just not worth worrying too much about a TV's interface; its primary purpose is as a VDM (video delivery mechanism), and as long as it doesn't get in the way of that or make it more difficult than it need be then it's all ok to me.

Yeah, the interface on the GZ1000 is on the plain side, and it's quite bizarre how there are elements of it which look to be a carbon copy of the same interface on my plasma from eight years ago; but it's easy to use, fast and does the job. Weirdly, it's crashed the TV a couple of times recently (TVNZ On Demand; thinking this may have been updated to provide for the new 'channels' etc?), but apart from that, it's fine.

I also get that many people do also use media players for many functions, so yep that's less they'll have to do with the TV's own interface; for me, however, I'm totally happy to use the TV's own apps for Netflix, TVNZ, Prime, YouTube (if I don't Chromecast), and Neon (when we had that) - they're typically only one or two buttons away. I only go to a media player if that service is not supported on the TV; for us that's rarely anything other than Kodi, Comedy Central and sometimes Disney Plus if we have a sub for that.

I have a 55" GZ1000 and ATV 4K. I only use the TV's built in YouTube app as the ATV doesn't do 4K YouTube. For everything else I use the ATV.

Browsing an Aussie tech forum regularly, it's nice to see LG's 2020 OLED range is finally available here.

I wonder if the initial outrageous launch price of the CX 65" at $6500 was just to stop people ordering what wasn't quite available.

The prices are still a lot higher here than Aussie - they're around $3600-$4000 AUD for the 65" CX. At least we don't have snakes and bushfires. And less Sars-CoV-2, but still.

To be honest, its not too dissimilar pricing wise from previous years. Same story last year, the c9 launched at around that $6k mark for the 65".

I remember when I was in Sydney this time last year, I was contemplating trying to sneak a B8 home since the price was so cheap compared to NZ.

Yeah, me too this year with the CX....too bad you can't fit a 77" TV in the overhead compartment as carry on for the TRS scheme!

The two problems with importing/shipping from Aussie are a) shipping ($500-1k) and b) GST & import fees. Basically this cancels out the price advantage and of course you've got no local warranty etc. I believe our friendly NZ retail outlets, lacking in competition and operating on lower volume throughput compared with most other markets, are fully aware of this and price up accordingly.

Whilst I have no issue paying GST at our border, or the relatively modest import fees (biosecurity levy etc), paying GST in Australia by purchasing at retail then GST again in NZ adds further to the disincentive. However, tt may still be worth importing from an even cheaper country than Aus in that case (and one without GST applied at the country of origin so you're only paying sales tax once, appropriately in NZ).

only if you have means of shipping.

and if you think the retail price in AU is cheap, wait till you see their sales. 50% off is very common when next year's models are out.

Just purchased a Panasonic 65GZ1000 and new 1500mm Cabinet for it from Harvey Norman. Went through commercial sales manager so can't state price but very happy! Should have it home tomorrow

Well over a week later and I'm still waiting for Harvey Norman and the supplier to deliver. Apparently no stock in Christchurch and couriers and freight being the way the are its almost impossible to get an answer.

I also pulled the trigger on the C9 during the QBW sales, 8 working days later, also in the same boat :\

Did a similar thing - LG OLED65C9 from Noel Leeming.

Purchased Sunday. They had to ship it from Hastings to the local store, and it arrived Thursday.

Well worth the wait - amazing screen.

I have been sizing up either the LG C9 OR CX for a while but hearing a lot of chatter about Audio latency issues when combining with a soundbar ..(almost cases all have to do with Dolby formats). E-ARC was meant to be the fix-all but many still experiencing same problems with E-ARC capable receivers and sound bars.
The solution I'm seeing many do is connect sources directly into the sound bar then Arc back to TV, but this sacrifices the ability to use VRR and the tv wont recognise Dolby Vision from the sound bar.  Has me thinking maybe the SONY A8H is the better buy once out.

Any C9 or CX owners experiencing this audio latency issue ?

No - but my receiver is older (HDMI 1.4-era), and it's also not a soundbar, which I blame for all evils in the world.
