After a few hours now, the Iceland video 4k60fps plays fine without any judder.

My theory is that while the TV was immature, the CPU was being used in the background doing work for Android. Now that it's not doing work it's ok.

The other thing I've changed was to enable Instant Power On, effectively putting TV in standby rather than sleep.

Perhaps this is the more critical step, perhaps the Android uses CPU for a wee while after a full boot.

I've just tried finding the right Iceland 4K 60fps YouTube clip and eventually found one called 'Ethereal' which the TCL definitely struggled with on the big scenery pans. I'm assuming that was the one you were having troubles with? I looked at some other 4K 60fps clips with animals and insects and they seemed OK. Probably much less of the screen changing between frames than on the moving scenery. Interesting that it came right eventually. I might need to leave mine turned on for a while, just for android to do its thing and try again.

I tried it again and it had the judder, eased up a lot, but it never fully went away. *shrugs my shoulder*

oh well, it's pretty good!

other than VLC app not playing ball ... need to figure out how to connect to my computer.

Been playing around with the picture settings - i don't think they do anything!

there are micro dimming, something else dimming, black adjust, black extend, don't think they do anything.

turned everything off just so it saves processing power ....

Had a play with Netflix direct from the TCL over the weekend. It was definitely happy to play the UHD/4K shows without stuttering etc. I assume they are probably not 60 fps? I did notice that they often started streaming at lower settings and then flicked to 2160p once it had been running for between 5 - 20 seconds. As far as I can tell there is no 'setting' for it, the Netflix app is just sorting out how fast the feed is. I just looked for shows with 4K/UHD in the description and they all seemed to work quite happily after that initial settling in period.

In terms of picture settings... I haven't had a good look at them all yet so not sure if they make a difference really.

Hmz. My issue with TV turning it ON itself is BACK.

Get my word, it's soooo freakish to wake up to NetGeoWild lions roaring at 2am from the lounge downstairs.

Anyone with the same issue?

I remember in an earlier forum post about this TV that it only had HDR on the USB ports or something similar, I can't find any info regarding this on the TCL website, or any retailers websites? Anybody able to shed light on this?

I have this. I do not have HDR content to try. But I am not sure if the HDR it claims to do is any good. I won't worry about it. My 6000 series Samsung TV have more vibrant colours than this TV can generate, and about *10 times brighter. *exaggerated

But I am completely happy with the functions of this TV. it upscales well, it has the android OS, it is (was when I bought it) cheap, very good PQ - there are unlimited picture quality adjustments you can make and I can eek out more detail than my rigid Samsung TV.

only downside - very thin sound (I have a home theatre system), not the brightest screen (good for me, I can't stand bright LED screens!), not the most vibrant screen (does not mean it lacks in detail, they are different).

dynamic range/contrast/black levels etc - I am not sure. it won't be as good as OLED and that's all I care.

you probably need the X2 to get the better detail and picture quality. It has their so called "quantum dot" technology, which the lower models do not have. On display in JBhifi I could see the difference between the models and I thought the X2 was on a par with the panasonics and Sony's.

It did take some fiddling with all the settings, the colours were always ok, but the blacks took some fine tuning as I was so used to my Panasonic have such good blacks, as they always seem to. But I believe I have nailed it now, though the greyscaling or blockiness is evident on low quality recordings, but on 4k netflix, well, even not 4k, its great, sport is excellent too, though older programs can throw up the blocky blacks.

Really, I have no issues at all with the picture, and the sound on the X2 is the best of any slimline TV, my only gripe is still the CEC issue.

this was half the price of the X2 when I bought it, I thought I'd go for cheap and nasty - I mean functional. turns out it is so functional I don't notice anything wrong with it. but when you hear I don't have any 4K or HDR blu rays then I might not be the right person to listen to if you have those content.

I have 55e17nus and can confirm it can play HDR from youtube, usb and locally hosted files via kodi, plex, smb direct
