Hi All,

I have done some searching on this and found some related topics but none that I understand the solution!

So here is my issue, I have a Yamaha RX V373 5.1 Receiver and a Samsung HDTV and MySky HDi.

I have the HDMI cable from the TV to the Sky unit as per the installation guy. I then bought the receiver and connected the optical cable from Sky to the receiver. This gives me sound in all 5.1 channels, however I cant control the volume with the Sky remote now, only the receiver.

I have not played around with stereos in some time and the technology is new to me!

Solutions?

How about hdmi from sky to receiver and then hdmi from receiver to TV...

You can then repurpose the optical cable to provide DD from the TV freeview tuner back to the receiver.

The MySky box will only send 2 channel audio over HDMI (god knows why). So if you want digital audio through your receiver you will still need the optical cable from the MySky box to your receiver - regardless of where the HDMI goes.

And if you are using the digital audio out of the MySky box, then you can't control volume using the Sky remote, it has to be done via the receiver.

Hi there, thanks for the reply.

No combination of HDMI cables from sky to receiver to TV seems to work... the audio from the optical is unaffected, but the TV picture either goes black or has a check cable error appear. Hmmmmm

That, is balls. What a terrible setup!

As alluded to earlier, your original setup is the best option - Sky box to TV via HDMI, Sky box to Receiver via optical.

I thought they fixed that though, so you can get Dolby Digital surround via hdmi?
Do you have to turn it on in a menu location etc?

If not then yes, you're stuck, but I do have a feeling they corrected this?

Setup/ System Setup/ System settings/ Audio & Language Settings?

Audio output = stereo
HDMI digital audio output = Dolby

Jax, I just made the change, do I now remove the optical cable and try the HMDI cables from sky to receiver and receiver to TV?

Over to you. Just it seems the volume works via the SKY remote only when you output PCM/stereo. If you output dolby the SKY remote doesn't control the volume, instead this is left to the receiver to control the volume.

So yeah, over to you to decide what you want to achieve. There's no right/wrong as such to any of this.

The sky remote doesnt work in any scenario so far, except when excluding the receiver all together.

Yes that's correct.  When you output Dolby the sky remote volume controls won't work.
That's not a fault, that's normal behaviour.  Use the remote control on your receiver.
