XBMC 12 aka "Frodo" has been released today. Their website is heavily overloaded, but more details here. I'm really looking forward to having a play with the Live TV\PVR functionality - hope it runs well with an HDHomeRun. And hopefully upgrading from 11 (I have it on 3 machines) isn't too much of a hassle. Has anybody been running the beta\RC builds and have any comments or thoughts?

Have been using RC3 for a few weeks, works really well! I havn't got the PVR section setup at the moment, but its something i would like to do eventually.
Just going through the process of redoing all my movie nfo/fanart etc as the formats slightly changed with frodo.

been running frodo beta/pre betas for ages, was wondering when frodo final would be out, its about 2 weeks overdue last I looked.

tv is nice, but still very young and doesn't support all tv features, eg advanced/recurring recordings. but its a good start and nice how it works with many different backends, very happy they decided to do pvr in xbmc this way.

couple of confluence changes I dont like, eg if you turn off movies/tv on the home screen you dont see recently added tv/movies up the top left/right on the videos menu like you use to. personally I dont want a crowded main menu and like tv/movies as sub menus of videos, but also liked quickly seeing my recently added movies/tv shows on the home screen, so disappointed about this.

raspberrypi/android support is cool

havent played much with the new audio engine, raspbmc warns its unstable.

but a nice release, cant wait to see it run on the ouya.

I never used XBMC before as it didnt support livetv. after some problems and trying out windows 8, I went back to Windows 7 64 bit using wmc. This htpc is running perfect at the moment so will leave alone. If I had looked and known a few days ago, I would have waited for this latest xbmc. Oh well in the future maybe

HTPC Intel Pentium G3258 cpu, Gigabyte H97n-wifi motherboard, , 8GB DDR3 ram, onboard graphics. Hauppuage HVR 5500 tuner, Silverstone LC16M case, Windows 10 pro 64 bit using Nextpvr and Kodi

have been using frodo rc 1 , 2 and3 since release and have been happy with each release as it has improved in speed in my exp

must try the tv/pvr option at some point too :)

looking fwd to installing 12 final - cheers for the heads up

Well, upgrading all 3 installs was pretty painless. The first one took an age to upgrade the shared mysql database but everything seems to be running smoothly now, both figuratively and literally - some of the UI changes, though small are very slick (not sure if these are xbmc 12 or skin updates)

I have been using the first couple of RC's for a while, haven't had any issues. I don't use the PVR stuff so didn't notice that much different, its still a very good product. Anecdotally I have noticed fewer audio sync issues (I always used to ahve to offset the sound by 200ms, I haven't had to do this for a while).

And yatse for android is proving to be a solid replacement for XBMC Remote (XBMC remote no longer works with XBMC 12)

@blair003: Thanks for the heads up on yatse! Even though the official xbmc remote has been updated I decided to give it try and it's pretty good.

The built in WoL function is brilliant - As soon as I start yatse it turns on my HTPC. The only minor issue I have with it is that it seems to send a WoL straight after using the yatse power button (which I have set to suspend) causing my HTPC to turn striaght back on; I can get around it this by selecting power off then pressing the home button on phone to "exit" yatse before it turns the HTPC back on; minor annoyance really.

Hmmmm, it doesn't do WoL for my HTPC when I open yatse, I have WoL setup on the configurable button which shows on the small widget.

Thanks for the heads up, didn't realise the official version way out.

I have been using the betas with the PVR, it is nice to finally have live tv in XBMC. Only problem I have is that when changing channels it is pretty slow takes about 5-10 seconds sometimes but I have some no name dvb-t tuner brought from trade-me that could be the cause because WMC is quite slow at changing channels also.

All in all, it is fantastic and would recommend to anyone. I have been trying to convert friends that use Mediaportal but they don't want to switch, they all once a upon a time had XBMC running on an old xbox and it was godly then, it is now even better in so many ways!

The only issue I've had with XBMC 12 was that on my Windows-based media PC it consistantly crashed on startup.

The problem turned out to be that XBMC 12 didn't like using the database my RASPBMC device created on the MySQL server. Deleting the existing DB, then allowing XBMC to create it fixed the issue.

Crashed or hung? My first XBMC12 install took an age to update the existing database, around 20+ minutes I think. During this time it looked like it had hung (interface greyed out and endless windows progress spinner looking like a "Not Responding" window in windows) but when I checked the MySQL server there was constant activity on it. Sure enough I just left it alone for 30 minutes or so and it eventually finished updating the DB.

PVR function ‘nice, but still very young’ would sum it up, I have a Hauppauge dvb-s card and changing channels is slow also, advanced/recurring recordings is also needed

+1 YATSE android remote, the widgets are also very cool

XBMC doesn't start when I open YATSE either, did you sort this blair003?

Not sure if this is what you mean, but I don't know if yatse can open xbmc automatically.

What I was refering to above was that on my setup it seems to send a WoL signal as soon as I open yatse on my phone. I had to turn WoL on in my htpc bios I think and it runs XBMC all the time (through eventghost as windows shell) and the shutdown button on both the htpc and the power off in yatse are set to sleep\suspend. When I open yatse on phone the HTPC comes straight out of sleep.

Cheers sidefx, makes sense, yes I was hoping it would opening xbmc. I think I will just add xbmc to start up.
