I've installed Tomato on my Linksys router and added Astrill's VPN service to it.

Everything is working well.

My Roku 3 router arrived today and although Hulu Plus is working - Vudu seems to know I'm not in the US.

Has anyone out there managed to get the Roku 3 player working fully using a VPN (rather than unblock us service) ?

Cheers

Mark.

I just noticed Vudu stopped working on my Roku 2 - using strongvpn.

However it works on my WDTV.. weird

I believe they are looking closely at services that run behind proxy's.

I wonder if the only way through this is to get a unique IP address through my VPN provider...

Maybe because Unblock-US doesn't proxy your service (supposedly) it means they can't zero in on a group of IP's. It is obviously easier for them to just block a VPN provider's IP space. Like Astrill has been blocked from Amazon for ages now. Not sure about anything else.

It seems that geo-block detection is getting more complex.

In order to get Vudu working i had to pay for a fixed IP address from the Astrill. That way Vudu saw I wasn't running via a proxy - even in the USA.

That sounds right...

I was an Astrill subscriber and change  to unblock-us as it is the cheaper option for streaming (Roku)
