was at JB HIFI and i came across the Bose CineMate Series II

I was kinda blown away with the sound quality in regards of 2.1 giving out 5.1 type surround quality so was wondering who here owns it or what other home theater systems are out there which is just as good if not better than the Bose and around the 1k mark

i'll say it up front - i can't stand bose

overpriced, no mid bass and the bass it does have is weak and boxy - and all up - terrible value for the coin

i will admit it does however have ok waf - but meh to that....

alternatives to what you saw?

personally i would recommend a pair of bookshelf speakers and an amp e.g.

speakers @ $299
http://www.paulmoney.co.nz/shop/speakers/bookshelf/wharfedale-diamond91bookshelf-/

amp @ $698
http://www.jbhifi.co.nz/jb-hi-fi-home-audio/receiver/onkyo/7-2-channel-av-receiver-sku-92501/

same money - far superior sound and upgradeabilty

it will kill the bose now - and is upgradeable e.g. add a centre / floor stander fronts later and you will be a very very happy camper...

happy shopping :)

The old saying for Bose - "Buy Other Sound Equipment" :-)

A bit of googling will show why ...
