40UB800T is sold in PB for 899. That is lower than some mid range 40 inch 2k TV in those big shops.

This model is sold in the US as 40UB8000. It doesn't have the new WebOS that many new 2015 LG TVs have. But other than that the specs is not bad at all. It doesn't support 4:4:4 in 4K 60fps mode, but that's no worse than any of the 2K TVs. Of course it has no FreeviewPlus, but who cares?

Any one actually owns one or has any thoughts?

I'm buying one tomorrow if nothing else pops up.

I got the 42UB820T for 897 from Noel Leeming in April.
Great TV, I have no 4K content due to crap internet.
The picture is very good, the sound quality is OK, I could not get the ARC working with my Onkyo AMP, I have to use a toslink cable.
Plays most formats off my NAS drive so that is good.
Very few apps however and not a lot being developed, if you can survive with netflix and youtube you will be fine.
Has a wife friendly remote and a proper remote for the Nerd of the house.
I have used the remote app on my phones and works well.
I had a play with a chromecast for the first time over the weekend, way easier to get youtube on the tv.
I have not tried a wireless keyboard to see if that works.
This is last years model and wont get freeview plus.

Check to see if other stores have this TV and it is not a parallel import, while I dont have a problem with parallel imports PB take their time fixing stuff,

Thanks for the tips.

Just Youtube and Netflix is good enough for me. I'm a 2 channel audio guy, so don't care about ARC. Can you please confirm your TV does have manual audio delay control option when using optical output?

I'll check with PB to see if it's a parallel imported. But currently PriceSpy shows no other shops carries it. I do have a screen shot pic showing that PB was selling the 40 model in Apr for 699. Hope that will help me to talk the price down a bit.

Thanks.

I believe PB now looks after some of the commercial panel sales for LG...
Which, of course, means they put most of the models up for sale in their store.
Few commercial customers want 'smart TV's', as the smarts typically come from elsewhere in their infrastructure - so it makes sense for them to sell the Web OS TV's in a retail space.
The benefits of a 40" TV that's UHD are few... as you'd have to be sitting VERY close to get a benefit. If it's going to be a computer monitor, it could be cool though. But if that's the case, check for backlight uniformity... it does become an issue on IPS panels.
Apparently some of the 2014 LG's will receive an upgrade to Web OS 2.0 this year, which is great, as the original version (on this TV) is widely panned as being incredibly slow, and a frustrating, fragmented experience. If LG are upgrading operating systems, that would be a first for the TV industry and a major milestone in TV manufacturers 'thinking about the consumer'.
You won't get Freeview Plus, however. But on the plus side, standard definition TVNZOndemand looks terrible on a panel of that resolution... up your game TVNZ / TV3!

Could really talked price down. But I bought one anyway today for $861.

But there is a problem, the TV is emitting some sort of high frequency buzzing noise. Assuming that is due to a faulty power supply, bad inductor? The buzzing is quite more noticeable when the screen is brighter, thus using more power.

Didn't have more time today but will try to get a replacement on Sat.

Hi John, does your 42 inch model have any sort of buzzing noise? (not from the speakers)

I'm pretty sure mine is faulty. Grrrr. What a bad luck.

Thanks John. Mine need a replacement.

Also there is no picture adjust option available on the Smart TV contents, i.e youtube and netflix. All the picture adjustments can only be applied to normal sources like Freeview TV, HDMI, etc.

The default picture setting on the Smart TV content is not good enough, dull color and lack of contrast.

Is it a bug? How about bigger sized models?

I have adjusted the picture on my last years model 65" for youtube ok, Ive not had a play on the 40" one as I decided that I didnt really need to upgrade the downstairs TV just yet till I have finished other things.

Still cant get that bolluxy dimming backlight to turn off which is annoying, as you can see the blacks brightening and dimming as things on the screen change.

Im pretty sure my 65" does 4:4:4 on the HDMI 2.0 port. Certainly didnt have the problem with edges of colours looking like mud like my small TV which doesnt have it ends up showing, but to be honest as I could only use it on a short HDMI cable across the room and not on the hidden 10m one, I didnt really bother trying a great deal with it from the PC.

I found where the picture setting for Smart TV contents is hidden, lol.

I wouldn't call that good software design as they really should have put the settings together.
