Picked up a dse sat reciever off the discount table at dse with no remote, and got a harmony 525 as well.

There dowsnt seem to be a code in it for the EPG or to change aspect despite the detected codes finding it as a zinwell correctly.

Is there any way to edit the codes to see if there are dfferent ones that will work?

I have mine on the Harmony 525 under the code DSEG7503.

I have access to both the EPG (on Guide button) and aspect ratio (Aspect - first screen of additional buttons in devices) with this setup.

On activities it defaults to TV for aspect but you can easily change this.

Hmm, that code doesnt do anything, I found DSE 7500 in the list - I was looking for Dick Smith -

It does the same as the zinwell code - aspect does nothing, guide does nothing, Audio does mute, list works, Fav does nothing, mute tells me there is no dvb subtitles, PIP does nothing as I would expect since its not got PIP, tv/radio works, video format does nothing.

My box lists

HW verison 1.0
SW version 6.5
date Nov 30 2007
time 14:08:28

Tried the update thing many times and its not worked

How do the codes get into the harmony database, it sounds like they are wrong or something, and I can find no options to export them easily (have not looked thru its folder yet to see whats in there)

I've just tried loading a new device now and it came up ok.

Used:

Device: Digital set top box

Manufacturer: DSE

Model: G7503

G7503 actually comes up as the example.

(That's using Logitech Harmony Remote Software (7.5.0))

If it doesn't show for you it may be that it's only coming up on my login after I created it. I remember having trouble finding it at the start assuming it was under a Zinwell box.

I think most of the devices are loaded by manufacturers and distributors but also a certain amount from customers loading new devices so there will be a degree of errors. Have loaded about 10 devices and they have all been pretty accurate so far.

Ah, it looks like the 7503 is the DVB-T box...This is a sat box, so nowonder those codes did nothing for me.

At least its working, but going into the menu to change between letterbox and pan and scan is getting very tired very quickly

Yeah, sorry, I missed that on your original post.

If there turns out to be no discrete codes you could try creating a sequence to do it via the menu with one button.

There is a button for aspect on the orig remote image on the box, so I can see no reason why the one on the harmony wont work, and the EPG also not working is a mystery.

Once these damn sales are over I will go into a DSE and have a play with one. I was very tempted to get me the HD box for $211 when I was there but just cant really bother when I am so close to a working HTPC and really wanted it just to get tvnz 7 in the bedroom which will remain a SD 4:3 for the forseeable future barring some unknown inheritance etc coming my way...

I'm pretty sure TVNZ7 is broadcast in ED anyway, on both sat and UHF so the quality should be the same regardless.

I'm also in a similar situation with a DSE-7500 decoder. Bought one cheap off trademe without a remote, and am now trying to figure out which (if any) of the cheaper universal remotes will be able to operate it.

Once I do buy one, would be quite grateful if someone in the Auckland area would let me use an original DSE-7500 remote to 'teach' the universal one the commands, as I don't think I'll find a code for it.

The TV is a 4:3 one.

The problem with the logitech is that I cant just pop over to someones place or into dse with the remote, it needs a laptop etc, and I got rid of my only other learning remote with my old receiver, and IME learning off a learned remote is not reliable.

If the harmony isnt doing what you want, then why not train it? just load the software, go to the device youve setup and either add a button if its missing, or retrain one if its malfunctioning.

My 525 is doing all sorts from cheap Cobolt TV's to high end receivers works well with everything even my IR Receiver for my PC. If you have the original remote then it can be taught to do anything that remote does it only gets tricky if the original remote is busted :)

Because I don't have the original remote, and one of the points of the harmony is that it has a code library so you don't need the original remote control.

If I drag it, the cable and the laptop to somewhere that has one I can use then I could learn the commands, but they should be in there to start with rather then me having to learn them.
