Hi,

I had Sky installed yesterday and the installer ran a single cable from the dish to the HDi box. When I went to the advanced settings, the box indicated that all four tuners had a feed from the single cable. Using TVsource is there anyway I can get my dual DVB-S/2 tuners to run with the single cable like Sky can? Does the sky box use an internally wired multiswitch on all tuners to get around this point (I have no interest in tuning SBS so everything will sit on the H polarity)?

Hi yes a single feed from the dish is correct, there was a time when Sky were looking at using capacity and backup service from Optus D3, however those plans have been put on a long term back burner so there is no longer a need for two orbital locations to be reticulated to multiple tuners. Also all capacity on D1 thats used by Sky and FreeView is on Hpol only.

Yes the MySky HDi does have a multi switch on board, so the single feed can be seen by all four tuners, if Vpol was ever required or D3 capacity from 156E then yes further feeds to the internal switch would be required but as mentioned that is not on the current planning.

If I wanted to replicate such a setup with my HTPC (including the number of tuners for example) how would I go about this? I'm assuming I would need another 2 tuners, a switch of some type and 4 cables (one for each tuner?). Could you then run another cable from the switch to the dish and pick up the Vpol as well?

Hi, if you want Vpol and Hpol at will from D1 then simply one other cable is needed and a 2in 4out multi switch. split the current fed to the HDi to pickup the Hpol and the new feed for Vpol. I guess you are already aware there is only SBS on D1 Vpol and the occasional feed that are hard to track so unless you have time to scan then not of much use.

If you want to feed this new setup with 156 (Optus C1/D3) traffic then there is nothing to see other than the tiresome Optus Auroroa notice channel, so effort to install the extra cables is wasted, you would also need a 4x4 multi switch (which is what the HDi has)
