Still having trouble returning from sleep while docked. Monitors just won't power up and the only way to get them to connect is to perform a restart.
Could the age of the monitors make any difference?
Keep calm, and carry on posting.

Its possible.
My 7 year old BENQ had wasn't detected at all by the dock and would only do 640x480 when connected directly to the SP4. After a bit of time with MS chat support and bringing another monitor home to test with, I was told it was incompatible.

Yep, it was with an active adaptor. The newer test monitor worked fine through it.
Anybody with an i5 256/8 want to help me out by experimenting for an hour by trying the pen as a primary input device? Experience the magic of writing your input. Be amazed at how well integrated it is.
Looking to see if the dropouts are unique to my two units. Otherwise you may have to put up with my constant whining. Just detach your keyboard and do some web browsing, email, solitaire etc. like a normal couch or down time session.

Thanks for the reply. I've never tried it with the cover folded so to test might be better without. The issue is intermittent so it can vary. In the shop it took 40 minutes to kick in but it can be quite rapid. If it cuts out on you, reverse the pen to engage the eraser then resume writing with the pen. Ideally if you can use for a long while that would be better. I think I will make a point of timing it today and count how many times it does it as well.
I seem to have the least problems using it continuously to writer with as input on web pages like I'm doing right now but it can happen anywhere at all including doing this sometimes right in the middle of writing a letter of the alphabet[
Edit: there we are made a note of the time 8:27-8:50 am playing solitaire. Cut out #1.
I'll do a restart and start a fresh count.
On my restart made it from 8:55-8:57. Also playing solitaire and nothing else running.. I'll leave it going and see how many more I get before I shut down.
And oh, for anybody following I've spoken to two Microsoft CSRs since who didn't know anything about known pen issues but at least they were all good conversationalists and very polite.
gzt: Is there anything new in the event log at fail time?
Nothing I can see at the times it happens. 2:46 was the last one and I don't see anything under Administrative Events, Summary Page events, windows logs. Any where in particular should look?
