It is easy to climb into people who make a complaint.

I am here to tell you guys about the service. My Dad knows enough about computers not to get his information wrong.

The fact is, the quote is well over and above market rates and the Fair Trading Act is there for a reason.

There's no need to get personal.

The service from PB tech sounds fine. Your Dad went into get a quote the quote was done for $115 + GST

You and your Dad think the quote is too high and are not willing to pay $115 +GST

I still see no fault on the PB tech side

Agree with John here.
Without any detail on what the quote was actually for you really are having a rant, and worse putting a supplier down without presenting all the facts.

I dont think anyone is getting personal. With statements like the above you seem to be missing the point. You seem to think PB has broken the law by providing a 'high' quote. We are just trying to clarify why you feel that way

Maybe you should see how much an Apple certified service centre quotes for genuine Apple RAM:

Effectively $160GB for a 2GB module, not including any postage or labour.

And the last couple of "genuine" Apple modules I've seen have been generic Samsung or Hynix modules.

Good odds they quoted him for "genuine" Acer memory.

EDIT: Or how about almost twice that price for "old" DDR2 RAM: http://store.apple.com/nz/memorymodel/ME_13_1ST_MB

Heck, I've got 2 of those "genuine" modules sitting in a drawer, might be worth selling them, anyone want a good price on genuine Apple RAM? Only one little old lady owner?

And it isn't illegal to overcharge.

Maybe immoral, but certainly not illegal (look at hotel prices in Auckland/Queenstown or Wellington for the RWC)...

EDIT: just checked, the Kingston recommended RAM for those AspireOne (assume it is a D250) has a cost price of just under $40, so $115 is rorting it a bit just for the RAM, but I would charge that including installation and certainly not feel guilty.

I think heavenlywild rant was valid. If you go into say a vodafone store and ask the person behind the counter how much for a brand-x phone and is told/quoted the price is 50% more than the shelf/advertised prices, then wouldn't a full on rant be valid.

Since when do shops add on a service fee for asking about the price of something.

Glad you got the ram else were.

Illegal, if the advertised price on the website says one thing and the guy in the store says it's really 50% more. It breaches the advertising stands thingy.

The problem is that the exact quote doesn't appear to have been posted, so people can't really comment. Really we need to see the breakdown, such as the exact model of ram, and the installation fee. As otherds have said, it sounds like they quoted on acer ram, which will be more expensive,

If Vodafone was intentionally gouging then a full on rant would be valid.

In this case the rant is unfair because the OP has not even called PBTech to find out exactly what they quoted, the components of the quote, and why.

If there is price gouging of any kind going on (or even a higher than expected labour charge) the OP has not yet provided enough information to demonstrate this.

I just hate when online shops took bloody hours or even days to send a quote for items. It is been 26 hours already when I left quote request on the parts I'm interested at pconlineshop.co.nz. I wanted to order today and receive tomorrow so that I can play with new parts and build new miniPC on weekend... but its not likely to happen now :(

Classic "you get what you pay for" service.. pconlineshop is a cheapest on pricespy etailer (no physical store) with little or no stock which just whack's a few % on the wholesale cost and the product is "drop shipped" to you.

You'd get a much better service from Ascent, Playtech or Computer Lounge, however at a marginally higher price for stuff.

@Ragnor I know that dude :) Just got my CPU from Playtech, but they don't have MB and RAM I'm after... and I'm not prepared to pay +$100 for MB and RAM else where... just order MB from Elive...

PBTech are great! There is surely some kind of misunderstanding here.

A quick plug for AlphaCity while etailers being compared - their customer service is excellent, I have used them several times. I ordered a 160GB HDD for my xbox (old IDE one) the other day - it was Thursday, I wanted it for the weekend (which I called and told them) and it arrived at work Friday morning! Super impressed.

YGWYPF. Try PPc.o.nz , they reply within hours and are competitively priced.
