jeeg: I'm torn between the i5 model with 128GB storage and 4GB ram and the i5 model with 256GB storage and 8GB ram.

I plan to do some moderate productivity tasks on Office, Photoshop while web surfing at the same time. Which model should I go for? If only there was a 128GB model with 8GB ram...

ikr, i want i5/8gb/128gb option which is sadly not available. :(

I assume it is a price issue. Why not get the sp3 with the spec you need? The differences are not major for that use.

I'm not really a fan of buying a 1 year old product despite the price differences. And I heard the thermal throttling was a big issue for the Surface Pro 3.

At what point does it really become an issue? Like, what kind of loads of what periods are enough?

Edit: big fan of buying mature revisions but never opposed to new product ; ).

Can understand the attraction of the new model - the screen looks to be a major step forward, and removal of the windows button is very sensible - but I've had no issues with thermal throttling on an i7 SP3 that is used day to day as my main machine.  Structural analysis software and quite heavy weight excel spreadsheets.

Are the Surface Pros available from any business suppliers? The only one I contacted hasn't got prices yet.

Yes the business resellers are able to provide pricing and take preorders

Are they going to be available to regular resellers from Ingram Micro et al?

People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.

nope, and its a shame, the margin is quite high on surface products as well, will continue to sell customers non surface products until they allow resellers to buy from Ingram and synnex

they are doing a reseller expansion with IM at the moment, contact them if you want to apply

if your customer wants to buy Surface, in my experience they find a way to buy it

Also the retailers like Harvey/Noel/JB or commercial reseller like Acquire can leave margin in for you to resell.

I sell a few dozen laptops per year, i cant even think of 1 time a customer has asked for a surface, they buy what i suggest, and its not a surface because i cant sell it

We had this conversation before and i did actually look into Acquire, they are still making the bulk of the profit on the sale, making it not worth while.
