I have been successfully using a Merlin XU870 Express card with a Vodafone sim card in a MacBook Pro around Europe for the last 2 months after obtaining the latest Vodafone software via the internet from New Zealand.

However I went to the USA a few weeks ago and had no problems using it there.

It was only when I switched off my computer and restarted it back in the UK that my problems started and I have not been able to use, or even get the Vodafone software to recognize that the card exists.

Can anybody help me please....

Thanks

Have you reinstalled the software and does the LED flash at all when card inserted

Go back to V2.05 MAC software if this worked fine.

When I plug the card in, I first get a white led, then turns red, then flashes green, then flashes blue.

I have re-installed the vodafone software, but it still dosen't see the card.

If I go to about this mac and look at the USB bus devices it shows the Novatel Wireless HSDPA Modem as being present.

I'm not sure of the version as it doesn't have a version number, but it was created on 31 October 2006 and last modified 15 Feb 2007

Did you install the Apple update for the XU870 card which came out last month?  As below...

The WWAN Support Update v1.0 provides SW support for the following WWAN products:

Available on the Cingular network:
  • Novatel Merlin XU870 ExpressCard (HSDPA)
Available on the Sprint network:
  • Novatel Wireless Merlin EX720 Express Card (EVDO Rev. A)
  • Novatel Wireless Ovation U720 USB Modem (USB Adapter, EVDO Rev. A)
Available on the Verizon network:
  • Novatel XV620 ExpressCard (EVDO Rev. 0)
  • Novatel V740 ExpressCard (EVDO Rev. A)
  • Novatel Wireless Ovation U720 (USB Adapter, EVDO Rev. A)

Let me know if you did because this needs to be removed (couple of steps you need to take)

Hmmm, the fix used to be at this site here...but now it asks you to renew your subscription....didn't ask for that when I sorted my MBP out..

I'll have a hunt round as I think I saved the Web page somewhere...

Hi again, from memory this is what I had to do to get rid of it:

Navigate to your (root) /Library/Receipts directory, open the WWAN receipt which will appear to be an installer package... then from the installer select File> Show Files> (Command+I)

You will see a list of the installed files which you can use to remove them manually, follow the tree down...I remember with a couple of the files that I had to open the package when I got to a certain point...once the package opens you can continue down the path...there were about 5 files that need to be removed. Once you have done this...remove the receipt and reinstall you Mobile Connect software. Should sort the issue out. Let me know how you get on.

Cheers
matt

Uninstall the VMC for Mac dashboard using the installer.

In finder, browse to System/Library/Extensions/

Locate IOSerialFamily.kext file.

Right click, 'show pacakge contents'.

In the package contents, browse to Contents/Plugins/

Delete AppleWWANSupport.kext and AppleWWANVerizon.kext

Empty trash, restart the Mac.

Reinstall the VMC for Mac dashboard using the installer.

Don't install the WWAN update again.
