My nephew destroyed the hard drive cable in a Toshiba Portege R600 laptop when attempting to replace the drive, and so is trying to find a replacement cable (as per the photo below). Can anyone advise where he would find one, or does anyone have such cables they're willing to sell? Apparently, he's also looking for the same cable for Portege R500s not sure if it's the same one?).

He's needing the laptop to run speaker design software for a high-school project, so it's a fairly mission-critical item!

Thanks for any suggestions.

Thanks for that. He was hoping for something th as t would arrive quickly (and ideally cheaper!), but if that doesn't work out for him then this will be a good alternative..

Boot it from USB enclosure in the meantime + you'll have a use for that old drive you're replacing.

I have had good luck for affordable parts for laptops off UK sellers - get here way faster than the chinese sellers, and shipping isnt stupidly expensive or impossible like with US sellers.

coffeebaron: EMPR

He wants cheaper than AliExpress.. EMPR is normally about 500 times the cost :-)

If you want it fast, try the Toshiba service agent for NZ. That seems to be this company.

Portege R600 would be from 2009 so probably not.

+1 to idea of booting from USB in the meantime.

It's quite reasonably priced too.. have EMPR gotten a lot cheaper all of a sudden or is this just an exception? Whenever I used to go look for parts for old hardware they'd show up on EMPR for asstasstically vast sums.

Thanks everyone for all the really helpful posts - I'll pass them onto my nephew, who I know will be grateful for the assistance.

Cheers

Jonathan
