Hi all,

I have had my old Toshiba Satellite L750 laptop in at PB tech for repair as the sounds cuts out randomly on it, they told me there was a repair that needed to be made on the mother board and quoted $270 to fix, I agreed and 3 weeks later when I called them for an update they told me the job had been cancelled and the laptop sent back from the main repair center in Auckland back down to Christchurch as they could not repair it.

The Christchurch team said they will take another look at it when it arrives but after all the mucking around so far I am not sure if it will get fixed or not so I have started looking for a new one and thought some people here might be able to advise me if the two I am currently considering would be suitable for me (I know a bit about laptops but not heaps).

I mainly use my laptop for internet browsing, streaming, photo shop and occasional video editing.

I have been using the price spy website as there is so many filters you can use (more than I have seen on any other website) so you can really narrow down what you are after. I have come up with two that I think would be suitable for myself (links below) the thing is from what I can see they are very very similar in specs and very different on price, identical processors, same amount of RAM etc. The Acer is much cheaper but I want to know if I am missing something in comparison of these two laptops? or is HP just more expensive because it is better quality? The HP looks a lot nicer, but I know the Acer is easy to pull apart to remove dust.

One other thing to note is both of the laptops have a 256GB SSD and no HDD, I have a new Samsung 500GB SSD at home I will put in myself (if I can).

Acer - https://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=4980995

HP - https://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=4545080

If anyone could let me know what one would be better and why and perhaps also explain why there is a big price difference that would be really appreciated!

The devil is in the detail :)

The screen resolution is different the GPU's are different. As well as a number of connectivity options.

If it were me buying i would make sure the laptop has a 1080p screen resolution and a MX series gpu or similar.

Thanks for your reply, very helpful as I have just learnt the difference between the two resolutions and will now stick with 1080p for sure!
Would you mind going over the connectivity differences? would the both support 5ghz so I can get the 5ghz 200mbs WiFi signal at home? (my current laptop only detects the 2.4ghz 50mbs).

Dont assume anything  :-)
- you will loose warranty if you open it
- it may not even use the 'normal' SSD (probably do)
- some laptops need to be completely stripped to remove HD's , as in completely stripped & remove motherboard (not as common though).
Looks like that Acer is an easy swap & might support 2 HD's (from google)

As for the 2 you linked to.
One is a business class NB, they often cost more & often come with Win Bus . The other is a Home class NB (With Win Home)

As for wifi, they both support Wireless AC , nice, if your router/AP supports it
