Hey. I have a compaq Presario F500. I was on it just before, until around 6pm, then i put it into 'sleep' mode. Usaully this is fine and all i have to do is lift the screen up and the laptop wakes up. This time that didnt happen. I lifted the screen up, the fans started going, light started flashing (as usaul) and the screen was showing nothing. I held the power down, laptop turned off, then i pushed it to start it up. Again, the fan started going (for about 3-5 seconds), the lights flashed (as it usaully does when i turn it on) and then after 15-20 seconds it turns itself off and then back on again to repeat the process. In this entire process i dont see anything on the screen. Just lights flashing and fans going.
I have tried: Turning it on with the battery and Main Power running through it.                 Turning it on just with the battery                 Turning it on with just the main power.
No matter what way i do it it just doesnt work. I usaully have it plugged in with the battery and main power. This has happened before and i used to be able turn it on with no battery in - not this time though.
All information is helpful.
Cheers

The F500 series seem to really suck.

I've got one with a common fault - dead wireless.

And I've also experienced the sleep issue where the system doesn't seem to wake itself up, though I think that was more of a driver issue rather than a system issue. Forcing a shutdown and restarting fixed that for me.

If nothing appears, then it's probably something loose or fried/dead - as the white Compaq logo should appear. Have you tried the troubleshooting tips? Any beeping?

Hey manhinli.
I went to the link you posted. I have two ram slots(and 2 pieces of ram) in my laptop. So i tried alternations between different rams and different slots. Nothing worked. The problems are still there :(. No there is no beeping just lights flashing, fans working. Ah by the way i have also just vacuumed the dust that built up on my fan before i changed the ram around. Nothing happened then either.

And yes, F500 Series does have problems. I have dead wireless aswell. I can find my network, but i cant browse the net. Ah well.
Does anyone have any ideas as to how i may be able to fix my Laptop turning on/off problems please?

Update - looks like these laptops really are designed to crash and burn at specific time intervals.

My one has just started exhibiting this problem. And I need to use it for business in over an hour.

Sorry to hear that manhinli :( When i posted this it took me 3 days for it to finally turn on.

It randomly happens with me. I thought it was just when i put it into sleep mode, but this morning i was on it, shut it down and then it wouldnt turn back on.
Goodluck with it :P

It works in around 1/7 start ups.

I'm shopping around for a new laptop, and backing up all my data!
