I am looking for a new notebook that's broadly speaking fast, thin, light, with 802.11g wifi.

Suitable for taking overseas.
Runs XP PRO
Good CPU, RAM and HDD specs.
Maybe HP but will consider other options.
With an onsite NZ warranty.

Budget is $1800
Must be new.

Please recommend any that you think might meet the criteria.

Thanks in advance!

You are limiting yourself if you only want XP.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with Vista these days. And with a Vista machine you can now upgrade to Windows 7 in October for free.

Most consumer notebooks don't offer a downgrade to XP unless if you purchase business machines which cost quite a fair bit.

What would you be doing on your notebook? Games or just the net and Word Processing?

Have a look at the Acer Timeline series - superb battery life (7 hours or so) and very thin. It won't be any good for gaming though.
