apparently he thinks that what you should do when you have an network that went down from overloading and is still fragile and not fully working yet, is send out a txt to 300,000 people. (or however many customers they have)

Yeah, that sounds like a good idea.

This is effecting 90,000 users below Taupo, I think they could probably handle a single SMS over a small period of time being sent out to those handsets operating in that area. There accepting calls after all and SMS already.

The TXT is just part of it, the communication is not acceptable thats what I am getting at

I just received a phone call from a Vodafone number and could hear the person but the other side couldn't hear me... Anyone seeing the same? I am in Wellington/J'ville.

I'm still not receiving txts... Not looking forward to the moment when my phone decides it wants to receive them again and I get deluged. And here I thought it was just a quiet day at work :(

Certainly they have there work cut out for them to resolve, compensate and restore confidence in customers and staff.

Assumption would say that the design was based on as little spend as possible and that will possibly come back to haunt those who make that decision.

So who did they buy the kit off, Alcatel or Huwaei?

As has been said before, the real heroes will be the guys on the ground who will get it up, and maybe Telecom will spend some money on some High Availability kit with Resiliency

after spending my time reading through this, i can see alot of people have no clue wat is going on, but im one of the so called heroes that has been up close to 36 hours with 3 or so hours sleep trying to fix everything and get it all back up and running, we dont get thanked or anything for the hard work we have put in to get everything working to where it is atm, i dont think alot of you understand how hard it is to do

think you guys should stop your crying and complaining, and build a bridge and get over it, and dont rely soo much on your cellphones for work, or atleast have back cdma phones as well

ALu have Product line and 3rd line support units in various countries including India, France, USA & China to my knowledge... depending on the product, sub-system or feature.

Most vendors also employ a 'follow the sun' support model allowing 24/7 attention to an major issue and normally have 3 hubs strategically located globally to centralise the communications between the problem network/country and the unit/country supplying the solution in a relay fashion depending on the normal working hours as the earth revolves. These hubs are normally referred to as 2nd line support centres.

It seems appalling to that at 16.15hrs on Thursday Jan 28, Telecom CEO Paul Reynolds office released a statement confirming the network was still out in some areas, I quote

"Several cell sites in Dunedin, Invercargill, Timaru and Queenstown are not operating and XT users in other areas south of Taupo are experiencing intermittent service issues".

Didn't Telecom promote XT as a world class network ? It makes me wonder whether they really meant 3rd class....

I'd have a sporting bet that TehONE is not a 'so called hero' working on this problem and is just trying to twist the knife. If he is then I'd recommend going to sleep before getting emotional.

firstly thank you for your efforts, you are doing your upmost to solve this I am sure!!!

Unfortunately I am going to take you to task for the rest of your comments....

Secondly are you serious...... dont rely on on our cell phones..... have a back up phone on CDMA when we pay for a premium service on XT..... is this now the expectation?... I am sure it is not?

Third.....YOU GET PAID EVEN IF THE PHONES DONT WORK - a lot of NZ's core small businesses have to rely on mobile phones to make income..... without them... they dont make money and that means less money to go around.

Fourth.... thank you for working so hard on this but maybe some compassion for the people that keep you in a job in this country who are effected dramatically no matter how much the complaining pisses you off, which we all must be hard...they just want a service that is now a crucial part of their personal and business lives to work.

I agree, I never trust any post originating from a "new user' whose first post seems to be somekind of peverted attempted to stir up emotions.

I've no doubt there are some Telecom techs working long hours to solve the problems, HOWEVER it probably is the same techs that installed or worked on the "new XT network", what ever happened to taking responsiblity for your or your companies actions....

i am actually, was one of the guys that installed most of the network between taupo and wellington, and i will be going to sleep soon for a bit then going back at it
