As per the Telecom current status,  there's a XT outage south of Taupo today.

I'm curious, what is the level of planning on redundancy on the XT network? 4 or 5 9's?

I wou;dn't imagine any mobile network would ever pledge to offer 5 or even 4 9's of uptime.

Hmm.. would depend on what you were talking about. At an individual user level, or individual site level, then yes I agree. However, if you are talking about the core network elements I think that 4 (or maybe 5) 9's would very much be in scope as a target KPI.

Not the sites, but the core network? I'd expect a lot of it.

Interestingly i have reports of a roaming user in Oz intermittently unable to make calls. Should this incident affect roaming users?

Lovely, I'd been wondering all morning what was up...Called them and heard that message, then came here to post to find there already was a topic.

So they have replaced high prices with an unstable network, awesome.

Interestingly there didnt seem to be any outage here in Dunedin. I've been using my phone continously for the last couple of hours including calls to others around the area on XT.
@bbman - "Telecoms XT core network is continually failing" seems to be a little bit over the top. I recall only one major disruption to the network during the day before this.

I compare this to the Vodafone service I can't get any at all... Sitting in my office in a CBD building where there are THREE vodafone stores and not a single bar of reception on two different phones. I'll take XT and it's very occasional outage any day.

Edit: quick reply box decided '@bbman' should be a mailto:

Ugh - very odd behaviour from my handset here in Wellington. Seems to be changing from a 'Network lost' message, to full signal indication (but can't make/receive calls), to one bar of service, to 'Network lost' message again. I'd only recently changed to XT on my iPhone - not impressed - as a freelance photographer I rely on being contactable.

Cheers,
Mike

This is not isolated and is becoming a problem that needs to be dealt with.
