Hi there,
I understand that there is still a lot of work being done by Telecom/XTRA with traffic shaping on the Big Time plan. Is that correct?
Also can you confirm if http traffic is being shaped (capped) at around 200-220 KB/sec during the day - because that seems to be the case.
If so, is that permanent as I am getting really annoyed with it? If I download a large file (e.g. say it takes 2 hours to download) using http, the rest of my web browsing is as slow as dial up speeds. This is frustrating and I am seriously considering either moving plans permanently or to another provider altogether. Your comments on this would be appreciated... Regards,
Thank you for contacting Telecom.
We do not employ traffic shaping any longer, however on the big time plan we do traffic management, simply put during peak times Big time user MAY be slowed to near dial up speeds. The link below will give you more specific information.
https://www.telecom.co.nz/broadband/select/1,10627,205728-204466,00.html?action=/plan&detail=17#traffic_management
For this inconvenience we do not cap you. So you can use as much data as you like.
If you are experiencing slow service outside the traffic managed time frames, then you should contact the helpdesk so we can investigate the problem.
This may uncover faults on the system we may not be aware of, like when Big time users were getting slow speeds on international traffic. A problem that we finally got resolved.
So other then traffic management, there are no restrictions on your speed.
