no it wont samsung w531 is a gsm/cdma fone. xt network is WCDMA.

Does anyone know how to change the vodafone voicemail number on a NZ 3G iphone to the Telecom number?

Anybody know if XT supports call return to voicemail while roaming on some or all networks? If it does are customers charged for this for the duration of the VM message?

As many people will know when roaming if your phone rings there needs to be a return path for this call to be returned back to your voicemail. Most carriers around the world only have limited support for this and on Vodafone for example it works in some countries but not others. In countries it's not supported the person calling you just gets disconnected after the VM timeout period rather than hearing your VM message.

I'm just curious because the XT advertising in the paper today says that "voicemail works just like it dopes at home". If Telecom are not supporting call return on all roaming networks then this is blatently misleading advertising.

Does the call barring Feature work on the xt network. so you can just use the phone feature to request the network to bar the mobile account insted of calling telecom

I have used the call barring feature on the iphone on XT Network and yes it works...no need to call Telecom.

Does anyone know how to change the Voicemail number the iphone rings? Anyone been able to get this to work as the instructions given online about *5005*86*yourvoicemailphonenumber# do not work

tonyhughes: Testdrive.co.nz clearly states that it's a W705a.

As far as I can tell, TNZ will not be launching any handset on XTN that doesn't do 850MHz W-CDMA. Why would they? It's just not worth the hassle with customers!

The link below to the XT store site "Features" of the W705a says the W705a is NOT HSDPA- or HSUPA- capable!! Is this a misprint?? A little confusing....
I'd ordered on but cancelled it for the Nokia E71...

It's HSDPA, 7.2 Mbps; HSUPA, 2 Mbps (according to gsmarena)

Hi,

I'm an aussie backpacker, I will be spending 2 months in NZ August-Sept travelling all around but spending lots of time in the cities as well. I am generally unfamiliar with NZ telcos but I have been reading up.

I have a Kohjinsha SC3 tablet netbook. I just spent a month in the USA with it, however pre-paid 3G is non-existent over there, so I used hotel wi-fi and 2 hours a day free AT&T wi-fi at Starbucks instead.

I want to get an unlocked new Iphone 3G S from Australia in 2 weeks when they come out, and use the tethering feature of OS 3 to get my netbook online. This will save me getting a USB dongle which would cost me a few hundred $ and is impractical with a paperback sized netbook.

I realise from the XT coverage maps that some tourist areas such as Milford sound is not covered but in regards to Snowfields, can I expect to get coverage in somewhere like Wanaka? (If you know some decent fields for beginner snowboarding lessons with coverage, nice hostels and cheap multi-day passes, please PM Me! )

So please confirm - I walk into a Telecom store, get a pre-paid sim, give my credit card details, purchase $0-$20 of call credits and a 1GB datapack, tether the iphone via bluetooth/wifi and this will be the best solution for me, instead of Vodafone or a USB stick? Also, would Skype out work ok?

Can anyone tell me if the XT Sierra Wireless 885U sold by Telecom is locked to Telecom?
Or, if you were to be in one place overseas for some time, could you put a local SIM into it to get lower than "roaming" data rates?

We dont require opening up a return path, we employ Optimal Routing for Late call forwarding, our solution is not dependant on the foreign carrier supporting the feature, so yes we support VM to all our roaming destinations.

I have to get back to you about the charging.

No its not locked. All our XT devices are not carrier locked.

I suspect the programming via that code doesnt work since there is no TNZ carrier bundle. If you search gz there is a carrier bundle you can apply to activate the VM icon.

There's no need for Telecom to have a 2G network to fall back because the entire network coverage is 3G - while on Vodafone the network is 3G only in certain areas.
