NonprayingMantis: probably the weakest, lamest most try-hard marketing ever.
suspect the creative agency were given the demographic 'youth' and after a mountain of cocaine came up with....

'Giginaire'

http://www.telecom.co.nz/internet/unlimited/

and as for this.....

Haters gonna hate. But what do you care? You're a Giganaire. You've got unlimited broadband data and a worldwide web of media to consume. Choose your speed and get to rollin'. Word.

hah! I didn't even notice this bit. My moron filter must've blocked it automatically.

Traffic management, Me no like!, Orcon no longer does this and bigpipe doesnt. Plus for ADSL and fibre 30 it costs $10 more than orcon does, unless you have an ultra molile pay monthly plan

What was that horrible unlimited plan they had a few years ago?

That was AWFUL and lasted maybe 12 months before being pulled?

Oh god.

Telecom website looks like the ghetto now....

Telstra & BT (large providers in Aus & UK respectively) their websites look much more professional.

Also still pissed that we were thrown off big time a while back.
Will not be jumping ship from Slingshot in case traffic management is poor or Telecom end up pulling the plug on this too.

At least with Slingshot they have offered the unlimited plan for a number of years now without pulling and re-adding them.

Will still keep an eye on this to see how it turns out.

I guess you don't have to ditch your plan. If you are in a plan you are grandfathered. New customers won't have the 500GB plan option, it's likely nothing changes for existing customers.

Correct.  There will be no forced migrations to unlimited.  If you are on a 500gig plan, you can stay on that plan.

I'm guessing if you want to move from ADSL to VDSL or Fibre you won't be able to stay on the 500GB plan though, you would have to go unlimited. (or smaller plan)

so if you want to move to Fibre and use more than 150GB but avoid traffic management, you would be out of luck.

No, you will be able to stay on the 500GB plan if you move technologies or addresses etc.  Any issues, let me know.

I was thinking of moving to the 500GB plan as I've been hitting up against my 150GB limit for the past few months.

However, I don't want to go onto a traffic shaped unlimited plan.

I tweeted that and got a reply from Telecom that I could still go onto the 500GB plan. See https://twitter.com/TelecomNZ/status/458749180555427840

Still considering my options.

Unfortunately with no idea on how much I would possibly get throttled back ....with a "traffic management" clause --- is unappealing.

With no indication on how much a customer could get throttled back during "peak times"....it makes it an unknown I would not want to risk having to live with.
