Seeing there was a thread for this and it seems the OP removed it, and seeing this is public in their website...

Telecom introduced unlimited broadband data plan with traffic management policy.

More details later when I get the release.

TELECOM LAUNCHES UNLIMITED BROADBAND DATA PLANS
New Zealand’s biggest broadband provider gives customers freedom to dive in and do more online, while having certainty about their monthly bill.

Telecom, soon to be Spark, has announced that it will offer residential customers Unlimited Broadband Data plans from today.

The Unlimited Broadband Data plans range across all data speeds from the basic ADSL through to Ultra Fibre, and start from $99 a month on ADSL when bundled with one of Telecom’s Ultra Mobile plans.

Telecom Retail Chief Executive Chris Quin said “we’re seeing demand for broadband data almost double year-on-year, as New Zealanders fundamentally change how they live to do more and more online. Many of our customers are now going online for everything from watching TV shows to playing games with friends to shopping to talking to family. This means for the average Kiwi data is an increasingly valued commodity.

“Over the past few years we have increased our data allowances on a regular basis to accommodate this growing demand.  However, we think the time is now right for Telecom – as New Zealand’s biggest broadband provider - to offer a plan that gives customers the freedom to do everything they want to online without worrying about what their bill might be at the end of the month, and so we’re introducing our Unlimited Broadband Data plan.

“This plan comes on the back of some big strides we’ve made across our network to give our customers what they need to get on and do more in the digital space. We’ve launched free WiFi, 4G, Ultra Fibre, free Spotify – just to name a few examples.

“When we announced that we were changing our name and invited New Zealanders to tell us what they wanted Spark to be about, Unlimited Broadband Data plans were one of the most asked-for products.  We see this as another crucial step in our transition to Spark – a company that will give New Zealanders access to the incredible experiences that data enables.”

Mr Quin said that given its expected popularity, Telecom may need to manage traffic on the Unlimited Broadband Data plan, particularly at peak times, to ensure the best experience possible for the greatest number of users.  This traffic management would aim to prioritise time-sensitive traffic such as Skype, TV streaming or gaming.

Full details of Telecom’s Unlimited Broadband Data plans may be found at www.telecom.co.nz/unlimited.

Does the extra $10 charge for ADSL outside AKL/WLG/CHC apply for the unlimited plan? Quite like the idea of moving up from 150GB at $109 to unlimited for no extra cost.

At the expense of the 500GB plan.

Hmmm. If you have 500GB plan you might as well go unlimited, surely?

Wouldn't be a problem if they weren't managing traffic. Adding in that traffic management makes it a little less attractive for some. Wouldn't be a problem for us as long as the management isn't too aggressive.

I'd choose an unshaped 500GB plan over a shaped unlimited plan any day of the week. (I assume that's what is meant by "traffic management policy" in the OP?)

I see your points folks. Yes, but would you pay more for the lack of traffic management if it was an option?

Details of their traffic management.

Short version - downloads (torrents, P2P, maybe file downloads) are slowed if the network is busy to ensure interactive services like skype and such work properly. When the network isn't busy everything goes full speed. Seems pretty reasonable in theory.

it looks nice on paper :P lets wait awhile and see how it pans out in reality, if its any good i may change to it, it would be nice not to have to check the usage every few days :)

Shame the sales/retention team didn't know about this 12 hours ago! I may have stayed.  Too late now, will check in again in 12 months :-)

That's what orcon said. And we know how bad theirs has been quite often.

IMO it's better to be metered at a fair rate and not have the isp decide what you do and don't get. Snap works out better in that respect for me.

Interestingly the unlimited plan is cheaper than the 500GB, at least for fibre... hmm

Possibly the precursor to Telecom launching their streaming TV service? Rather than unmeterring their streaming traffic.

500Gb plan appears to have gone if on Fibre. Also unlimited is same price as 150Gb on fibre.

probably the weakest, lamest most try-hard marketing ever.
suspect the creative agency were given the demographic 'youth' and after a mountain of cocaine came up with....

'Giginaire'

http://www.telecom.co.nz/internet/unlimited/

and as for this.....

Haters gonna hate. But what do you care? You're a Giganaire. You've got unlimited broadband data and a worldwide web of media to consume. Choose your speed and get to rollin'. Word.
