No, your speed is up to the amount quoted - it's not "you are guaranteed 30 or 100", it's up to that speed.

I hear you..and I'm a pragmatic man , but if the up to can be anything between 30 to 100 , advertising the plans as up to 100 is a little disengenuous in my opinion.

I went the fibre route for the higher speed and better stability , and while I accept fluctuations , if they are in the order of the above its frustrating...

I'm still waiting to get somehwere near the 200 I should have more than a week after a new install (and yes I have wired tested)....I'm being helped but it is frustrating and takes the sheen off the experience I hoped fibre would be.

Right lets post some examples of Speedtests:

1) Only Speedtest to a computer that can support said speeds over Ethernet. WiFi is a waste of time for testing speeds
Here is a WiFi speedtest (5GHz Wireless N) on my network: https://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4433560592
Here is one over Ethernet to the same PC: https://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4433567290

2) Your computer, network interface and type of router really matters.
For example, here is a speedtest off a slow (Windows XP) host connected to my LAN: https://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4433578082

3) I am not going to disable 5GHz WiFi off my Wireless LAN at the moment however if you're using this your speeds will be slower again (I get around 20-40mbit down, 20mbit up).

Basically, make sure you're testing from a fast computer connected by Ethernet straight to your router and ensure nothing else is on the network downloading at the same time. Speedtests also are not a legitimate measurement of your speed and you should also make sure you're actually testing to a server either on your ISP's network or paired to it. Just because you see "slow" speeds over a Speedtest does not mean you're actually getting slow speeds on your connection - it could be a number of things including the host you're testing from itself.

I know this thread is about UFB but my Spark VDSL has dropped from 37Mbps to 7Mbps(at 9PM) so I feel your pain.
I hadn't really noticed the "Netflix effect" until the last couple of days. To make matters worse I just found out today no fibre until 2018.

call and lodge a fault so at least they have statistics on this

Spark have a copious amount of bandwidth (and I really mean this) so they're the ones you'll least expect to suffer from any form of network congestion.

You need to post more detail as the problem you've mentioned could well be a totally separate issue again.

What part of NZ are you Jason? I'm in ChCh. I just emailed a complaint. Not sure if calling is better but when I've rung I've got the foreign call centre and the level of support has been very poor.

To echo everyone else, testing on WiFi is not a good idea.

Also, note that if you go on the uncapped data plan with Spark, rather than the 150GB plans, they reserve the right to traffic shape.
From experience, this is done quite ruthlessly at night, as well as the daytime on weekends.

Utterly, 100% completely wrong. I know what I am saying, and this is an official statement on the topic.

Whatever you are experiencing, it is NOT traffic shaping on the unlimited plan. Our unlimited plan is provisioned exactly the same in the network as the capped plans.

never ever seen this happen

i think you are seeing congestion(be it WiFi or local ie chorus) not spark limiting your downloads

No, not congestion. There is no congestion on fibre optic connections for residential GPON.
OLT ports for the PON network have a bandwidth of 2.5GBps.
The NZ design has 24 customers to a splitter (or in some cases 32), so even if every customer on the splitter had a 100 Meg connection, the congestion would only pull the throughput to each customer down to about 80 meg.

The traffic shaping done by Spark was only on streaming and P2P ports also.
Browsing was fine, but streaming you tube and P2P / torrent connections were shaped down to miserable speeds.
Changed back to the capped 150GB plan, and this no longer occurred

Spark do not and have not shaped traffic. End of story. They don't even have hardware in their network right now capable of doing this.

You. Are. Wrong.

I was involved in the design of reporting system which we used to look at the amount of P2P and streaming traffic etc in the network. I was also involved in the decision not to implement the traffic management side of that solution.

It didn't happen. It didn't go into the network.

I'm 100% right and telling the truth on this from a position of intimate knowledge about the situation.

Something else was impacting you. (Did you have the same IP address on both plans? There were other changes a few weeks ago which improved performance across the board.
