Yes I do have have a GMail address but it is also hard to access GMail when your internet is bouncing up and down.

And there are several reasons I run my own Email server, but I won't bore you with them as you seem to have your own opinion.

I also found your comments stupid and not very helpful. If you don't know the background of something why make stupid comments like that. Really helpful.... NOT.

DHCP on the external interface?

Obviously a router can/usually is the DHCP server for your home network.

Is this a seperate DHCP you are talking about or have you just disabled DHCP generaly?

Sorry - not super knowledgable....

Sounds like maybe something has changed in Bigpipe Land recently.

No haven't disabled DHCP, just stopped the External interface, which PPPoE sits on top of, from also requesting a DHCP address from BigPipe. I am betting the my "static" ip address is just a DHCP address with a reeeeeeaaaaaaallllllllyyyyy long lease. :-)

What he means is don't have your router make DHCP requests to Bigpipe.

The internal DHCP doesn't matter.

Ok - got it - Have no idea if the archer c7 has that behaviour switch on - will check when I get home.

I have a Static IP address anyway - so I dont imagine I would need to be negotiating DHCP with Bigpipe.

The one thing I have found the most difficult, is getting any information from BigPipe as to what is actually being done. I have resorted several times to using Twitter to contact them. Seems to be the best and fastest way to get a response.

Doesn't help that they only use email, especially when my email server sits behind the flakey UFB!! Can bit hit and miss delivering messages at the moment.

Most people have a mobile and don't host their own mail servers so its not that much of a problem.

Why would you make comments on a thread when they dont help?

Sorry you misunderstand.

I use gmail and have a smartphone, so Bigpipe support works totally fine. If my broadband is down I can still get in touch and they can still get in touch with me.

But if I ran my own mail server that relied on my internet to be working before it could send/receive email, I certainly wouldn't be using that email account to try and get support from Bigpipe since that is how they do service.

My smartphone can access gmail very easily if my internet connection at home is not working.

Dunno why you think that isn't helpful - you complained about it being hard to contact them because you use email that requires your home broadband to be working.
I'm simply saying that it would be better to use email that doesn't require home broadband to be working - such as gmail via a smartphone connection.

When I got home I disabled IPv6 and it hasn't dropped yet.

Fingers crossed...

Edit: It seems that for some reason Google services like YouTube and Captcha were extremely slow for me. So I switched to Google DNS and everything's speedy again.

BigPipe confirmed to me today that they have issues with several UFB connection and passed the issues to their engineering team. No ETA yet.

I reported the issue on Monday, 23 May night and they asked me to test directly with my laptop using PPPoE connection. Also suggested I disable IPv6 and enter the username/password as Bigpipe despite I had been using a different username/password since I subscribed to the service last year. Disabling IPv6 didn't help at all.

I had to send traceroute logs to pinpoint specific address which I suspected as their router issues and speedtest logs which had less than 20 Mbps download and uncompleted uploads test for two straight days.

It took them this morning to acknowledge that there were issues.

Connection has been stable today since 1:40pm with no PPPoE disconnection. But I'm not getting 100/20 Mbps speed at all. More like 20/20 Mbps now.

My connection seems to have been ok since I swapped to my older router. Maybe it is using different settings.

Might have a play with the Archer c7 today.

If anyone gets an update from Bigpipe can you please post some details?
Would really like to know what is going on.

No emails from Bigpipe this morning.

I'm using Archer C5.

Will be setting up speedtest to run every half hour to see if my speed has resumed back to 100/20 Mbps. Still not getting beyond 40/17Mbps early this morning.

At least, the link is not dropping off like before.

Sorry if this might be patronising - but you are testing only via an ethernet cable arent you?

WiFi can be notoriously up and down due to environmental factors.

hi all,

over the last couple of weeks we've had a very small number (<20) of sporadic issues. As you're probably aware, when the issue only affects a very small number of people with no apparent links between them, it's very difficult to pinpoint the problem - especially when the symptoms present themselves initially to be similar to a CPE/ONT fault.

the network team has been working hard alongside our hardware vendor cisco to isolate the issue. We think we have it figured out now, but it will take time to put a proper fix in place.

In the meantime, we have developed a workaround so that you can all get back online and working properly. That workaround was deployed yesterday early afternoon so your connections should all be working since then.

IF you are still having issues, please try the following

1) disable DHCP client

2) disable ipv6

If it is still causing problems please get back in touch by replying to our recent emails so we can re-flag with the network team.

In the last 18 hours or so, my online time has not reset. Traceroute showed less than 1% packet loss. It's consistent with what @BigPipeNZ said earlier. The last PPPoE disconnected I had was around 1:30ish pm yesterday.

It's the 100/20 bandwidth speed that I'm not getting. I'm still averaging 37/18 Mbps. I can tolerate this until BigPipe put in a fix.

p/s - As long as folks at home can use their wifi, watch videos and do social stuff, I will be at peace ;-)
